West Midlands is a metropolitan and ceremonial county in the larger West Midlands region of England. A landlocked county, it is bordered by Staffordshire to the north and west, Worcestershire to the south, and is surrounded by Warwickshire to the east. The largest settlement is the city of Birmingham.

The Downs Malvern is a private prep school in the United Kingdom, founded in 1900. It is located on a 55-acre (22 ha) site in Colwall in the County of Herefordshire, on the western slopes of the Malvern Hills. The appointment is made by the British monarch by Pricking the Lists. Created in 1974, the office of High Sheriff of the West Midlands has the duty to "protect and assist in upholding the dignity and well being of His Majesty’s judges and to represent the King's executive powers in respect of the administration of justice in the county". The Office of High Sheriff is normally awarded to people of stature in the West Midland who have significantly and positively contributed in some way to the county's community either through voluntary work or through commerce or industry.

Andrew John Street is a British businessman and Conservative Party politician who was the managing director of John Lewis from 2007 to 2016, when he resigned to run for Mayor of the West Midlands. Street won the May 2017 mayoral election, defeating Siôn Simon with 50.4% of the vote in the second round. He was re-elected in 2021, defeating Labour candidate Liam Byrne. He is Britain's first openly gay directly-elected metro mayor.
