John D. Floros is a Greek-American food scientist and academic administrator. He is the former president of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces,New Mexico. [1]
Floros was born and raised in Greece. After earning a Bachelor's and Master's of Science in food science and technology from the Agricultural University of Athens,Floros relocated to the United States to earn his Ph.D. in food science and technology from the University of Georgia. [2] [3]
Floros began his career at Asteris Inc. and the Central Union of Agricultural Cooperatives before transitioning to a career in academics. Floros was a professor at Purdue University from 1988 to 2000. He then worked as a professor in and the head of the Pennsylvania State University Department of Food Science from 2000 to 2012. In 2007,Floros was selected as the 68th president of the Institute of Food Technologists,a non-profit scientific society based in Chicago. [4] [5]
In 2012,Floros joined the faculty of Kansas State University,working as the dean of the Kansas State University College of Agriculture and the university's director of research and extension. Floros became president of New Mexico State University on July 1,2018.
In October 2021,following campus-wide demonstrations and a Faculty Senate vote of "no-confidence," along with allegations of "systemic failure of administrative leadership and dereliction of duty to uphold the land-grant mission,Hispanic-serving mission of the institution”there was a call for Floros' removal. [6] In the document submitted by staff,the allegations include Floros' and Provost Carol Parker's misappropriation of university funds,unethical hiring and promotion practices,deliberate circumvention of due process,rejection of principles and practices of shared governance,and broader impacts of systemic failure of leadership. [7] In January 2022,Floros announced his resignation as President of New Mexico State University,leaving sole leadership of the university to Chancellor Dan Arvizu. [8]

KRWG-TV is a PBS member television station in Las Cruces,New Mexico,United States. The station is owned by the Regents of New Mexico State University. KRWG-TV's studios are located at Milton Hall on the NMSU campus in Las Cruces,and its transmitter is located atop Tortugas Mountain in central Doña Ana County. KRWG-TV's signal is relayed on low-power translator stations across southern New Mexico.

Garrey Edward Carruthers is an American politician and academic who served as the 27th governor of New Mexico and the chancellor of New Mexico State University. He previously served as special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from 1974 to 1975,director of the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute at NMSU,state chair of the Republican Party of New Mexico from 1977 to 1979,and United States Deputy Secretary of the Interior for Land and Resources from 1981 to 1984.
The New Mexico State Aggies men's basketball team represents New Mexico State University in Las Cruces,New Mexico. Founded in 1904,the Aggies compete in Conference USA after spending 18 seasons in the Western Athletic Conference from 2005 through 2023. The Aggies,who last played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2022,are one of 34 college basketball teams with multiple NBA retired jerseys from former players and a team that reached the NCAA Final Four. The team plays home games in the Pan American Center.

Blue Mesa Observatory (BMO),also referred to Magdalena Peak Station for the International Planetary Patrol Program,was an astronomical observatory owned and operated by New Mexico State University (NMSU). It was located on Magdalena Peak in the Sierra de las Uvas of southern New Mexico (US),approximately 43 kilometers (27 mi) northwest of Las Cruces. Founded in 1967 under the supervision of Clyde Tombaugh,the observatory was closed in 1993. The site and the 30 acres surrounding it were conveyed to the Federal Aviation Administration,which tore down the observatory building and replaced it with a radar installation.
Robert G. Frank is an American academic administrator and faculty member. He was appointed as the fifth dean of the College of Health Related Professions at the University of Florida in 1995. The name of the college changed to the College of Public Health and Health Professions while he was dean. Dr. Fabián García was a Mexican-American horticulturist who has been described as "the father of the New Mexican food industry". Among other things,he helped to develop new varieties of chile peppers,pecans,and onions that are still grown in New Mexico. For example,in 1921,he introduced the 'New Mexico No. 9',a strain of chile pepper which became the genetic ancestor of all New Mexico chiles.
