John D. Wagner is an American author, entrepreneur and investment banker. He has written over 20 books and several articles for magazines and newspapers, particularly specializing in the areas of lumber and building materials (LBM), software and corporate finance. [1]

[8] [9] In addition to industry-related content, he has also written memoirs, a novel and two books of poetry. [10] [11]

Wagner has worked in higher education as professor at the University of Alabama, the Community College of Vermont, Burlington College, Saint Michael's College, Mississippi State University and Norwich University. He is also the chief marketing officer of Wagner Media, a marketing agency for companies in the building industry, [12] and the managing director of 1stWest M&A, an investment bank and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) company. Career

Specializing in the construction industry and the areas of lumber and building materials (LBM), Wagner has written for several trade publications like the LBM Journal, [6] the Journal of Light Construction, [7] Fine Woodworking , [8] Builder, Old-House Journal, and Popular Science, among several others. [9] [12] He has also authored articles for The New York Times , [2] the Los Angeles Times , [4] and the Chicago Tribune , [5] among others.

Wagner has written over 20 books, mostly focusing in the building industry, software and corporate finance. He has also written poetry, memoirs and fiction. His debut middle grade fiction novel, The Crash Crystal: A Lego Mystery, was published in 2011. [11] His poems have been published in journals including Quarterly West , Onion River Review, Jabberwock Review The Independent and The Columbia Review. [10] His first poetry book was Fake Cities, published in 2016 by Ex Ophidia Press. [14] It was followed by The Kallima Butterfly, published in late 2021 by Plain Wrapper Press. [15] [16] In 2020, Wagner was featured in All Things Considered —the flagship news program of the National Public Radio (NPR)—where he read a memoir. [3]

Since 2011, Wagner has served as the chief marketing officer at Wagner Media, a marketing agency for companies in the building products sectors, with a special focus on structural engineering. [12] Since 2015, he is also the managing director of the LBM sector for 1stWest M&A, an investment bank and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) company. [13]

In light frame construction, a birdsmouth joint or bird's beak cut is a woodworking joint that is generally used to connect a roof rafter to the top plate of a supporting wall. It is an indentation cut into the rafter which consists of a "seat cut" and a "heel cut" or "plumb cut", forming a shape resembling a bird's mouth. The indentation should not extend unsupported on the interior in order to maintain the structural integrity of the rafter because the unsupported section can split along the grain of the wood. The joint is generally fastened with nails by toenailing the rafter from the side into the top plate below.

American Strategic Insurance (ASI) was formed in 1997 and led by CEO and President, John Auer. Its initial offering was Florida homeowners insurance. The company has experienced rapid growth and is now expected to offer coverage nationwide by 2017, establishing its place in the top 15 homeowners insurance providers in the United States. ASI is headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida. These expansion goals are largely attributed to its acquisition by Progressive in April 2015.
