John Mahendran, credited as John, is an Indian film director and screenwriter who has worked on Tamil and Telugu and language films. John is the son of noted Tamil film maker Mahendran. [1]

In the early 2010s, John has worked on the script of Settai (2013) by helping director Kannan re-work the script of Hindi film Delhi Belly and on writing dialogues for Ambikapathy, the dubbed Tamil version of Raanjhanaa (2013) starring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor directed by Aanand L. Rai. [3] He worked as a screenplay and dialogue writing teacher at the Bofta Film Institute based in Chennai.[ citation needed ] In 2022, he wrote for the Tamil movie Visithiran , the official remake of Malayalam movie Joseph directed by M. Selvaraghavan is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and actor who has directed and acted predominantly Tamil films and few Telugu films. He had his directorial debut with Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002). Still, his father is credited for business reasons, which stars his brother Dhanush K. Raja, Selvaraghavan went on to make a series of romantic drama films with Kadhal Kondein (2003) and 7G Rainbow Colony (2004) before also venturing into coming-of-age films Pudhupettai (2006) and Mayakkam Enna (2011), both starring Dhanush. He has also ventured into making science fiction and fantasy films, such as depicting a fantasy Chola kingdom in Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) and a parallel universe in Irandam Ulagam (2013). He has been critically acclaimed for his directorial skills.

Mullum Malarum is a 1978 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Mahendran. Produced by Venu Chettiar and V. Mohan, the film stars Rajinikanth, Sarath Babu, Jayalaxmi and Shoba. It marks Mahendran's directorial debut and is partly based on Uma Chandran's novel of the same name, which was serialised in the Tamil magazine Kalki in 1966. Mullum Malarum tells the story of Kali (Rajinikanth), a winch operator of a cable trolley who dotes on his sister Valli (Shoba) since they were orphaned, and clashes with his boss Kumaran.

The plot focuses on a love story between a Kuthu Vilakku (lamp) shop owner and a BDS student. It was released on 11 October 2013. The film is an unofficial remake of the 1993 Malayalam film Meleparambil Anveedu and its 1995 Tamil remake Valli Vara Pora. It received negative reviews and became a flop at the box office.
Velaiilla Pattadhari, popularly referred to as VIP, is a 2014 Indian Tamil-language action drama film written and directed by Velraj, in his directorial debut, and produced by Dhanush, who also enacts in the lead role alongside Amala Paul, Vivek, Saranya Ponvannan, Samuthirakani and Surbhi. It is the predecessor to Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 (2017), which was directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth; replacing Velraj. The film follows Raghuvaran "Raghu," an unemployed graduate, who tries to overcome various obstacles before and after finding employment.
Visithiran (transl. Strange) is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language police procedural film directed by M. Padmakumar starring R. K. Suresh and Poorna. It is a remake of the director's own Malayalam film Joseph (2018).
