John Matthew Mare (22 February 1854 – 11 December 1909) was an English cricketer. Mare was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Paddington,London.
Mare made his first-class debut for Sussex against Surrey in 1870. He made 25 further first-class appearances for Sussex,the last of which came against Surrey in 1878. [1] In his 26 first-class matches,he scored a total of 616 runs at an average of 14.00. [2] An opening batsman,he only passed fifty once,narrowly missing out on a century when he scored 97 against Kent in 1872. [3]
He died in England on 11 December 1909,though the exact place of his death is not known.
In the 1773 English cricket season,there was a downturn in the fortunes of the Hambledon Club as their Hampshire team lost every match they are known to have played,and some of their defeats were heavy. Their poor results owed much to star bowler Thomas Brett having been injured. Three other county teams were active:Kent,Middlesex and Surrey. Teams called England took part in five matches,all against Hampshire,and won all five.
Alexander James Blake is an English professional cricketer who played for Kent County Cricket Club between 2007 and 2023. He played as a left-handed batsman who bowled occasionally. Blake was born in Farnborough in Bromley and attended Hayes School before studying at Leeds Metropolitan University. Blake was known as a "brutal limited-overs batsman" and an "athletic" fielder.

Arthur William Ridley was an English first-class cricketer. An all-rounder,he was considered one of the finest and last proponents of underam 'lob' bowling. His first-class career began with Oxford University while he was a student at Christ Church,Oxford. He would play for a number of teams between 1872 and 1885,including Hampshire,the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Middlesex. In 96 first-class appaearances he scored 3,150 runs as a batsman,while with his lob bowling he took 224 wickets,claiming nineteen five wicket hauls. Outside of cricket,Ridley was a brewery director;this commitment had the effect of restricting his availability to play first-class cricket with greater regularity.
The Central Recreation Ground was a cricket ground in Hastings,East Sussex,used for first-class and List A cricket between 1864 and 1996. The ground was frequently used by Sussex County Cricket Club as one of their outgrounds from 1865;in total,Sussex played 143 first-class and 17 List A matches at the ground. Between 1887 and the 1960s,the Central Recreation Ground also played host to the Hastings &St Leonards cricket festival,which attracted many other teams and notable players. In the early twentieth century,the ground hosted seven Gentlemen v Players matches,and notable players to have played at the ground include W.G. Grace,Don Bradman,Jack Hobbs and Denis Compton. Grace made over 40 appearances at the ground,whilst both Hobbs and Compton broke the record for most first-class centuries in a season at the Central Recreation Ground. The ground also hosted a women's one-day international between England and New Zealand in 1984. In the 1980s,planning permission was given for the ground be demolished,and the land used to build a shopping centre. After the demolition of the ground in 1996,the Priory Meadow Shopping Centre was built on the site.
