John Melling (born 16 December 1970) is a male British former wrestler.
Melling represented England and won a silver medal in the 62 kg featherweight category, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. [2] [3] Eight years later he also competed in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. [4] [5]
In 1990, he moved to Vancouver , Canada and attended Simon Fraser University. He wrestled for the varsity team winning the NAIA Championships at 134 lbs in 1992 and 1993, he was second at 142 lbs in 1995, before winning the 142 lbs weight division in his final year in 1996. Melling was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2004. [6]

The 1934 British Empire Games was the second edition of what is now known as the Commonwealth Games, held in England, from 4–11 August 1934. The host city was London, with the main venue at Wembley Park, although the track cycling events were in Manchester. Seventeen national teams took part, including the Irish Free State.

The SFU Red Leafs or Simon Fraser Red Leafs teams represent Simon Fraser University (SFU), which is located in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. The Red Leafs are members of NCAA Division II and are the only Canadian university affiliated with the U.S.-based National Collegiate Athletic Association. The teams previously used the nicknames "Clan" and "Clansmen," which were used as a tribute to the Scottish heritage of the university's namesake, Simon Fraser. The names were retired in 2020 due to the negative connotation surrounding those terms. In September 2022, the updated nickname "Red Leafs" was announced.
