The 1992National League Championship Series was played between the Atlanta Braves (98–64) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (96–66) from October 6 to 14. A rematch of the 1991 NLCS,Atlanta won the 1992 NLCS in seven games to advance to their second straight World Series. The series ended in dramatic fashion;in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 7,with Atlanta down 2–1 and the bases loaded,the Braves' Francisco Cabrera cracked a two-run single that scored David Justice and Sid Bream. Bream famously slid to score the Series-winning run,beating the throw by Pirates left fielder Barry Bonds.
Jason Michael Grilli is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Florida Marlins,Chicago White Sox,Detroit Tigers,Colorado Rockies,Pittsburgh Pirates,Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim,Atlanta Braves,Toronto Blue Jays,and Texas Rangers. Taken as the fourth overall selection of the 1997 MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants,Grilli was one of the top starting pitcher prospects in all of Minor League Baseball,ranked 54th in 1998 and 44th in 1999. The Giants traded him to the Florida Marlins in 1999,for whom he debuted on May 11,2000.
John Duffield Curtis is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Twice a first-round draft pick,Curtis played baseball at Clemson University and then pitched for several Major League Baseball (MLB) teams between 1970 and 1984. He retired with an 89–97 win–loss record and a 3.96 earned run average (ERA).

On May 8,the St. Louis Cardinals closed out old Sportsman's Park/Busch Stadium I with a 10–5 loss to the San Francisco Giants before opening the new Busch Memorial Stadium four days later with a 4–3 win in 12 innings over the Atlanta Braves.

The Big Three was a trio of Major League Baseball starting pitchers for the Atlanta Braves from 1993 to 2002 which consisted of Greg Maddux,Tom Glavine,and John Smoltz. The Big Three combined to win seven National League Cy Young Awards in the 1990s and helped lead the Atlanta Braves to a 1995 World Series win. Each member of the Big Three has had their jersey retired by the Atlanta Braves and were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.
The Slide was a baseball play that occurred in Game 7 of the 1992 National League Championship Series (NLCS) on October 14,1992,at Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta,Georgia. In 1992,the Atlanta Braves returned to the NLCS and once again defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in seven games,culminating in a dramatic game seven win. Francisco Cabrera's two-out single that scored David Justice and Sid Bream capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning that gave the Braves a 3–2 victory. It was the third time in post-season history that the tying and winning runs had scored on a single play in the ninth inning. This marked the end of the three-year divisional championship run of the Pittsburgh Pirates,who after the 1992 season lost Barry Bonds,Doug Drabek,and other key players from those championship teams. The Pirates did not have another winning season until 2013.
