Johnny Cooper is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away , played by Callan Mulvey. He made his first on-screen appearance on 19 October 2006.
Johnny is characterised as being one of the show's "bad boy" roles. [1] A Channel 5 reporter described Johnny as having the type of face people would dislike to "meet in a dark alley". As gang leader he commits many crimes such as robbery, blackmail and murder. His feuds with other characters result in him framing Brad Armstrong (Chris Sadrinna) with drugs and attempting to murder Sally Fletcher (Kate Ritchie) and Ric Dalby (Mark Furze). He also begins a feud with Sam Holden (Jessica Chapnik) when he starts blackmailing her. [1] He orders Sam to help him enter the hospital so he can murder Sally, but she is reluctant. Johnny becomes violent towards Sam and threatens her son Rory Tolhurst (Jack Rickard). Sam eventually decides to resolve the predicament by hitting Johnny with a cricket bat. [1] Her actions only hospitalise Johnny and she decides to administer a syringe of drugs to end his life. [2]
In one storyline, Ric is wrongly convicted of murdering Johnny's brother Rocco Cooper (Ian Meadows). Ric is sent to the same prison as Johnny and he begins to target his fellow inmate. Writers focused on the two character's life in prison and had them share stories. [3] Furze told an Inside Soap reporter that Johnny "wrangled" a transfer from another prison to get to Ric. When a drugs raid occurs in the prison, Ric notices that Johnny is guilty. Johnny and his gang plant glass in Ric's food as a warning. [3] Furze added that Ric's only "salvation" from Johnny's vendetta is a prison officer, Guard Jones (Warwick Young). He asks Ric to help expose Johnny's drug dealing in the prison and he agrees to help in exchange for a prison transfer. Ric's scheme is unsuccessful, with Furze adding that "things don't exactly go to plan, and it all blows up in his face." [3]
Johnny is first seen is his car outside Summer Bay High to warn his younger brother, Rocco that he has a commitment to his gang and cannot back out. Rocco's principal, Brad demands Johnny leave the premises and Johnny threatens him. Johnny then trashes Brad's flat and then forces Rocco into a robbery on Brad's place but Rocco convinces him to rob Amanda Vale's (Holly Brisley) home instead. Johnny and the gang take Amanda and Peter Baker (Nicholas Bishop) hostage and rob the place. Johnny then tells Rocco to ask Sally if he can move in at Summer Bay House but after Brad warns her about Rocco, she refuses. Johnny then has Rocco beaten and he is found by Brad and Sally agrees to let him stay. Johnny continues forcing Rocco to steal and escalates his feud with Brad and forces him off the road. Brad reports the incident but without proof, Johnny gets away with it. He then begins playing mind games with Brad by leaving messages about his late wife Emily (Libby Richmond) on the blackboards at school. Brad eventually snaps and attacks Johnny. Johnny in retaliation pays a student top claim Brad sold him drugs, which results in Brad being stood down as principal.
He then schemes to rob the local Credit Union, and Brad overhears and informs the police. However, Johnny is able to avoid arrest after a police search reveals nothing, due to Rocco removing the plans before the police arrived. Brad is bent on bringing Johnny down and sneaks back into his place and finds Amanda's stolen jewellery. Rocco then betrays Johnny to the police and Johnny tries to changes the plans but Sally finds the real plans and reports him to the police. Johnny is arrested and jailed and demands Rocco either kills Sally or be killed himself. Rocco stabs Sally and leaves her for dead, but she survives. Sally remembers the stabbing and Rocco arranges for him to stay at safe house. Ric Dalby (Mark Furze) arrives to confront Rocco but finds him badly beaten. Rocco dies in hospital and Ric is jailed for his murder.
Johnny begins making Ric's life very unpleasant when he is jailed. However, Ric's friends find evidence that exonerates him and he is released. In early 2008, Johnny escapes prison and returns to the bay in order to gain revenge on Ric and Sally. He poses as a chauffeur and hides out in the bush when the police begin looking for him. He makes his way to the caravan park and holds Colleen Smart (Lyn Collingwood) hostage with a knife and bursts into the house startling Miles Copeland (Josh Quong Tart) and Roman Harris (Conrad Coleby), leading to a tense standoff. Sally comes downstairs and tries to reason with Johnny but he stabs her and runs off into the night. The police give chase and Jack Holden (Paul O'Brien) shoots Johnny in his arm but he gets away. Johnny then hides out at the Holden family's home with the help of Jack's estranged wife, Sam, who he blackmails into helping him. He demands that Sam helps him get to Sally but when she lies about her still being in the hospital, he beats her up then takes Matilda Hunter (Indiana Evans) hostage and confronts Ric with a knife but is hit over the head by Sam with a cricket bat.
At the hospital, Johnny is left brain damaged but manages to utter the words "under the bed" to Jack but before he can say any more, he goes into cardiac arrest. Sam later administers a morphine overdose and kills Johnny. Sam's guilt overwhelms her and she begins seeing visions of Johnny. A letter written by Johnny, exposing Sam's criminal dealings is found and Sam commits suicide as a result.
For his portrayal of Johnny, Mulvey was nominated in the category of "Best Bad Boy" at the Inside Soap Awards in 2007 and 2008, respectively. [4] [5] A reporter from The Age said that the "flat-out nasty" role of Johnny suited Mulvey. [6] Johnny was included in What's on TV's "The 50 most evil soap villains of all time" list. [7] A reporter from Channel 5 included Johnny in their list of favourite Home and Away "bad boys". [1] The character's murder disappointed a Daily Record critic who felt that Sam whacking Johnny with the cricket bat alone would have been "far more impressive". [2] Other writers from the publication have branded the character a "sinister crook" and a "ruthless thug". [8] [9] An Inside Soap reporter branded Johnny a "crazy criminal". [10]
Sally Louise Fletcher is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by Kate Ritchie. She made her first screen appearance during the serial's pilot episode, which was broadcast on 17 January 1988. Sally became the longest running original female cast member. She departed on 3 April 2008. Ritchie earned various awards and nominations for her portrayal of Sally. In February 2013, it was announced that Ritchie would be reprising her role. Sally returned during the episode broadcast on 15 July 2013 with her daughter. They departed on 5 September 2013.
Jack Anthony Holden is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by Paul O'Brien. He made his first on-screen appearance on 5 August 2005. Jack was a police officer. The Holden family — Jack, his father Tony and his brother Lucas arrived in Summer Bay in 2005. In November 2008, the season finale, Jack was accidentally shot in the chest at a construction site by fellow police officer, Angelo Rosetta. In the first episode of the 2009 season, it was revealed that Jack had died after paramedics failed to revive him at the scene. Paul O'Brien decided to leave the series in 2008 and Jack made his last appearance in the second episode into 2009.
Jesse McGregor is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by actor Ben Unwin. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 20 May 1996. The actor departed in 2000, but returned in 2002 and departed once again on 26 July 2005.
Dylan Timmins is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Damien Bodie. He made his first appearance during the episode broadcast on 3 February 2005. Dylan is introduced as part of the extended Timmins family, created around the established character Stingray Timmins. Dylan is characterised as a "bad boy" and often gets into trouble with his criminal behaviour. He is also very loyal and protects his family no matter the consequence. Dylan is portrayed as having a difficult relationship with his mother Janelle Timmins, who blames him for any problems in the family. His introduction into the series explored their mother/son dynamic as Dylan feels unloved by Janelle. Writers also created a "father figure" for Dylan, Paul Robinson and he becomes Paul's protégé carrying out jobs for him.
Belle Taylor is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by Jessica Tovey. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 3 February 2006. Belle's storylines included finding her birth mother, a drug addiction, her relationship with Aden Jefferies and being diagnosed with cancer. In 2009, it was announced that Tovey had quit the show and the writers took the decision to kill off the character. Belle made her last appearance on 11 August 2009.
Chloe Richards is a fictional character from the Australian television soap opera Home and Away, played by Kristy Wright. She debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 28 June 1995. Chloe left in 1999, making a short return stint in 2005 when she died from the resulting injuries of a car crash. Chloe has relationships with Jack Wilson, Curtis Reed, Lachlan Fraser, James Fraser and Jesse McGregor.
Andrew "Drew" Curtis is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by Bobby Morley. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 7 July 2006. He departed on 21 March 2008.
Calvin Valentine is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Ricky Whittle. He arrived in July 2006 as a police officer with his mother Diane Valentine, his brother Sonny Valentine and his sister Sasha Valentine and made his final appearance on 21 May 2010 after he was murdered by Theresa McQueen. Whittle was credited for a flashback episode on 1 December 2010. Calvin appeared again as a ghost to tell his wife and Theresa's Cousin Carmel McQueen that his and Theresa's daughter, Kathleen-Angel McQueen, was fine with Theresa in February 2011.

Lucas Johnson is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Don Gilet. He made his first on-screen appearance on 3 April 2008. Lucas is introduced as a reformed drug addict and criminal-turned-preacher who appears as the estranged father of established character Chelsea Fox. He also has a young son, Jordan, and later goes on to marry Chelsea's mother Denise - whom he had previously been in a relationship with prior to their reunion.
Matilda Hunter is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by Indiana Evans. She made her first on-screen appearance on 21 January 2004. Matilda is the daughter of Beth and Jack Hunter and sister to Scott, Kit, Robbie and Henry. Matilda departed on 24 July 2008 to go to university.
Morag Buckton QC is a fictional character from the Australian Channel Seven soap opera Home and Away, played by Cornelia Frances. She debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 7 June 1988. She appeared until 1989 and briefly appeared in 1993. She returned yearly from 2001 until 2009, again from 2011 to 2013 and again from 2016 to 2017. Before she died, Frances had expressed her desire to once again become a permanent cast member. Morag has been described as an antagonistic, independent and cold character. Morag is portrayed as a tough lawyer. She has been involved in storylines such as adopting out her illegitimate daughter Bobby Simpson, being widowed, helping her brother Alf Stewart through his many legal battles and a friendship with troubled teen Aden Jefferies. She has been well received by certain critics for her feisty persona, whilst others have criticised her professional skills.
Miles "Milco" Copeland is a fictional character from the Australian Channel Seven soap opera Home and Away, played by Josh Quong Tart. He debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 30 November 2007. Ryley Mickle and Jackson Edwards played Miles in flashback sequences, showing him at ages three and eight years old respectively. During the early years of Home and Away, Sally Fletcher often spoke of an imaginary friend she called "Milco". When Ritchie announced her departure from the soap, producers decided to introduce the real Milco, as regular character Miles Copeland. The development was described by the media as a "legacy storyline." Quong Tart announced his departure from Home and Away in October 2011. Miles departed on 23 November 2011.
Eric "Ric" Dalby is a fictional character from the Australian Channel Seven soap opera Home and Away, played by Mark Furze. He appeared in the series from 15 September 2004 until 24 July 2008. Furze was cast into the role after an audition and a screen test impressed producers. Furze said he was attracted to the role because of Ric's characterisation. Ric was initially portrayed as a bully of vulnerable people and held no respect for authority. Through his storylines, Ric transforms into one of the serial's "good guys" but his violent temper remained. Both Furze and interested media noted that Ric getting involved in fights became a dominant feature throughout his tenure.
Diane Lloyd is a fictional character from the BBC medical drama Holby City, played by actress Patricia Potter. She first appeared in the series four episode "High Risk", broadcast on 2 July 2002. Diane arrives at the hospital to work as a surgical registrar. She is characterised as an "ambitious" female determined to succeed in a "male-dominated world". She is portrayed as unlucky-in-love and has numerous failed relationships during her time on the show.
Rob Donovan is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Coronation Street, portrayed by Marc Baylis He was introduced as the brother of Carla Connor. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 9 July 2012. In June 2014 it was announced that Baylis would be leaving the role after two years after being involved in a storyline where Rob was responsible for murdering Tina McIntyre. Rob departed on 5 November 2014. In August 2015 it was reported that Baylis would be reprising the role as Rob and he returned to filming in October for a short storyline. His return aired on 4 December 2015 and he departed a month later on 4 January 2016. He returned on 19 April 2017 and departed on 8 May 2017.
