Sir Jonathan Mark Swift (born 11 September 1964) [1] is a British High Court judge.
Swift was born in Rochford,England and was educated at Southend High School for Boys. He studied at New College,Oxford and completed a BA in 1987. He followed this with an LLM at Emmanuel College,Cambridge in 1988. [1]
He was called to the bar at Inner Temple in 1989 and practised from 11 King's Bench Walk. [2] He was First Treasury Counsel from 2007 to 2014 and took silk in 2010. He served as a recorder from 2010 to 2018 and was appointed deputy High Court judge in 2016. [1]
On 1 October 2018,Swift was appointed a High Court judge,and assigned to the Queen's Bench Division. [3] He took the customary knighthood in the same year. Since 2020,he has been judge in charge of the Administrative Court. [4] [1]
On 10 June 2022,Swift ruled,in favour of the UK Government that the deportation flights of unsuccessful asylum seekers in the UK to Rwanda should be allowed to proceed as there was material public interest in doing so. [5] He further said that the risks posed to refugees was "in the realms of speculation". [6]
On 8 June 2023,Swift ruled in favour of the UK Government,and rejected the appeal of political prisoner Julian Assange's legal team,which had filed two appeals befort the court against then UK Home Secretary Priti Patel's decision to extradite Wikileaks founder being indicted by the United States under the Espionage Act. [7]
In November 2023,Swift presided over the hearing of British journalist Graham Phillips,who was appealing UK Government sanctions against him,described by Phillips' lawyer as 'Orwellian',making Phillips a 'prisoner of the state'. [8] Swift has reserved judgement on the case. [9]
In 2008,he married Helen Evans with whom he has a son and a daughter. [1]

Assange v Swedish Prosecution Authority were the set of legal proceedings in the United Kingdom concerning the requested extradition of Julian Assange to Sweden for a "preliminary investigation" into accusations of sexual offences allegedly made in August 2010. The Rwanda asylum plan was an immigration policy first proposed by the British government in April 2022 whereby people whom the United Kingdom identified as illegal immigrants or asylum seekers would have been relocated to Rwanda for processing,asylum and resettlement. Those who were successful in claiming asylum would have remained in Rwanda and they would not have been permitted to return to the United Kingdom.

Kunstler v. Central Intelligence Agency is a lawsuit against the Central Intelligence Agency,former CIA Director Mike Pompeo,Undercover Global S.L.,and David Morales Guillen filed by a group of American lawyers and journalists associated with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The lawsuit alleges that the CIA violated their constitutional rights by recording their conversations with Assange and copying their phones and computers after suspicions were raised that Assange was working for the Russian intelligence services.
After Julian Assange was granted asylum and entered the Ecuadorian embassy in London,new CCTV cameras were installed and security personnel working for UC Global and Promsecurity recorded his daily activities and interactions with staff and visitors,including his legal team. In a 2017 email,the surveillance was explained with suspicions that Assange was "working for the Russian intelligence services." New cameras with microphones were installed in December 2017,and the installation of microphones in fire extinguishers and the women's bathroom was ordered. Other microphones were installed in decorations in the embassy. Morales arranged for the United States to have immediate access to the recordings. The embassy staff had removed the toilet in the women's bathroom in June 2012 at Assange's request so he could sleep in the quiet room,which he also used to meet with his lawyers.
