Mrs Dale's Diary was the first significant BBC radio serial drama. It was first broadcast on 5 January 1948 on the BBC Light Programme, later BBC Radio 2; it ran until 25 April 1969. A new episode was broadcast each weekday afternoon, with a repeat the following morning. A few days after the final episode, a new serial drama, Waggoners' Walk, took over the time slot.

Witness: Five Plays from the Gospel of Luke was a series of five 45-minute radio plays by Nick Warburton based on the Gospel of Luke, first broadcast from 17 to 21 December 2007 as part of BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play strand. They were directed by Jonquil Panting. Jesus and the disciples were portrayed in regional accents, a trope in radio retellings of the Gospel stories since Dorothy L. Sayers' The Man Born to Be King. Upper class characters were presented in Received Pronunciation, city-folk in Jerusalem in London working-class accents, and Romans such as Pilate and the Centurion in an American accent.
Gerda Stevenson is a Scottish actress, director and writer, described by The Scotsman in 1999 as "Scotland's finest actress". She has played many parts in the theatre, including the title role in Edwin Morgan's English translation of Racine's Phèdre, and Lady Macbeth, and has appeared in many television dramas. She was Murron MacClannough's mother in the Mel Gibson film Braveheart, and her voice is familiar to listeners of British radio, as a reader of short stories and adaptations. In particular, she has performed several poems and songs by Robert Burns for the BBC.

I, Claudius is a six-part 2010 radio adaptation of Robert Graves' 1934 novel I, Claudius and its 1935 sequel Claudius the God. Broadcast as part of the Classic Serial strand on BBC Radio 4, it was adapted by Robin Brooks and directed by Jonquil Panting, with music composed by David Pickvance. Claudius was played by Tom Goodman-Hill and the series' cast is also notable for including Derek Jacobi, who played Claudius in the 1976 BBC TV adaptation of the same works, now in the role of Augustus. The series was released as a BBC Audiobook on 6 January 2011. It won the 2012 Audie Award in the "Audio Dramatization" category.
Jasmine Hyde is an English actress who has appeared on the stage radio and screen. She is best known for her role as the young Hilda Rumpole in many years of the BBC Radio 4 dramatisations of Rumpole of the Bailey, opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and then later, Julian Rhind-Tutt, including Rumpole and the Penge Bungalow Murders. Most recently she appeared as Anna in The Arcola's production of 'The Cutting Edge' written and directed by Jack Shepherd.
