Jordan Harbinger is an American podcaster [1] [2] and radio personality.
Prior to his podcasting career, Harbinger studied law at the University of Michigan [2] He subsequently practiced as a lawyer and, in 2007, was employed by a Wall Street firm to work on mortgage-backed securities. [3] He was laid off one year later due to the 2008 financial crisis. [2] In his early days Harbinger was mostly known as an adventure traveller who sought out unsafe locations, and for being kidnapped on two separate occasions, once in Mexico and again in Serbia. [4] His traveling experience [5] led him to work as tour company guide for "Rebel Tours" (circa 2013–2016) facilitating travel for Westerners into North Korea via China. [6]
While in law school, Harbinger experimented with date coaching and networking coaching. His coaching experience has eventually led him to start a talk show, The PickUp Podcast. [2] [7] After graduating, Harbinger moved to New York [7] and formed a company called The Art of Charm. [7] [8]
In subsequent years, Harbinger continued producing his podcast as well as focusing on the coaching business. [3] [7] In 2010 he launched an app, and in 2011 he co-hosted a radio talk show with Joshua Pellicer called Game On on both Sirius and XM Satellite. [7] [9] [10] The show concluded its run in 2011, shortly before Jordan Harbinger transitioned to other projects and relocated to Los Angeles [2] . There, he introduced week-long "boot camps", [7] introduced phone-based coaching, and continued to focus on his business. [11]
Starting in 2015, Harbinger initiated a rebranding effort, shifting from his original "dating coach" persona to a more generalized self-help image. As part of this transformation, he began to present himself as a host who profiles, invites, and engages in conversations with public figuress. [12] [9] [13] In early 2018, Harbinger split from his former partners, left The Art of Charm podcast, and started a new podcast under his own name. [14] [15] In 2021, Harbinger signed a renewal deal on the PodcastOne network. [16]
The Jordan Harbinger Show, was listed by Apple as one of the top 25 most downloaded new shows of 2018 [17] . The podcast focuses on discussions with high-profile figures, commentary and self-help advice. [18] [19] [20] [21] In the subsequent years, The Jordan Harbinger Show continued to grow its audience. In 2020 its reach was estimated at around 250,000 downloads per episode and six million per month total across all platforms. [1] [22] [10] In 2023, according to Entrepreneur , the show averaged 5 to 10 million downloads a month. [23] On Youtube the show averages around 200,000 views monthly, according to SocialBlade. [24]
In 2013 Harbinger demonstrated at DEF CON how easily a person can be manipulated into divulging information to someone who may not be what they claim to be, [25] based on the Robin Sage experiment of 2010. [26]
In 2020 Harbinger interviewed Billy McFarland while McFarland was in federal prison. [27] During the interview, McFarland admitted guilt publicly for the first time. The interview was filmed by ABC News and featured in season 1, episode 4 of The Con . [28] [29] [30]
Harbinger has contributed articles to Newsweek Magazine [31] [32] [33] and Entrepreneur . [34] He also made recurring appearances on The Adam Carolla Show [35] in 2019 and 2020.
