Jorge Jaime Schaulsohn Brodsky [1] [2] [3] (born 22 December 1952) is a Chilean politician who was President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile and as a member of the Chamber of Deputies,representing the former District 22 of Santiago.
The Party for Democracy,also known as For Democracy is a centre-left political party in Chile. It states to stand in the traditions of liberal progressivism. It was founded in December 1987 by Ricardo Lagos,who aimed at forming a legal social-democratic party,as the Socialist Party of Chile (PS) remained illegal at the time. The PPD continued to function after the defeat of Pinochet. Until 1997,double membership of PPD and the PS was allowed.
Elections in Chile are held nationwide,including the presidency,parliament,regional offices,and municipal positions. Chilean citizens and foreign residents with legal residency of at least five years,who are 18 years or older on election day,are eligible to vote. Previously,voting was voluntary,but since 2023,it has become compulsory.
