Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc. (JMCFI), or simply Jose Maria College (JMC), is a tertiary educational institution in Davao City, Philippines. [1]

Jose Maria College was founded in the year 2000 by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church, naming the institution after his parents, José Quiboloy and María Carreon. [2] [3] The campus is situated near the Francisco Bangoy International Airport. [4]

Administration and admission

While its founder is affiliated with the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, JMC is non-sectarian in administration and is open to admission to any students regardless of religious background. It offers both basic (kindergarten to senior high school) to tertiary education. [5]

At the 2024 Senate hearings, the JMC were alleged to be promising KJC members scholarship in exchange for being full-time workers for KJC. The administration was also accused of withholding transcript of records from its ex-KJC students who left church. [6]

Sports

The Jose Maria College's varsity team are known as the JMC Kings. The JMC maintains a men's basketball team. [7] [8] [9]

The 2016 presidential campaign of Rodrigo Duterte was announced on November 21, 2015. Rodrigo Duterte, who was then serving as Mayor of Davao City, had refused to run and turned down other presidential and vice-presidential aspirants' offers to be his running mate, including that of Jejomar Binay, Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Bongbong Marcos. He was eventually elected President of the Philippines. Duterte's positions was seen to have resonated with older, working class Filipinos, particularly his promise to eliminate the wide-scale drug menace of the country and his harsh stances on crime in Davao City, which he served for more than 22 years, and corruption. Duterte's campaign also emphasized an anti-establishment tone, accusing political elites based in Manila of not doing much to solve problems in a move that was described as populist.

Sonshine Sports Management, Inc. (SSMI) is a Philippine-based sports management company based in Davao City, Philippines. It was founded in June 2014 by the Executive Pastor of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy who is named as the company's honorable chairman. Former North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Piñol also helped Quiboloy in forming of the new sporting management group. SSM organized different sporting events in the Davao region including the boxing series called "Boxing Revolution" featuring amateur and professional boxing superstars and the ACQ Cup Basketball League, featuring different collegiate and high school men's basketball teams from the Mindanao region. Golf and volleyball tournaments will soon follow.

Gikan sa Masa, para sa Masa is a weekly public service and talk television program hosted by former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte together with Rocky Ignacio from the People's Television Network and Apollo Quiboloy on SMNI. The program tackles the week's most prominent issues as well as explains the policies and showcases the projects of the Duterte administration. The show features a question-and-answer portion during which Duterte himself responds to comments, complaints and questions sent in by viewers.

It is owned and operated by Swara Sug Media Corporation, the parent company of Sonshine Media Network International, a broadcasting arm of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) led by Filipino televangelist and religious leader, Apollo Quiboloy.

In 2024, the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality of the Senate of the Philippines started a public investigation on the alleged abuses committed within the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, led by its pastor, Apollo Quiboloy.
