Guyana is a parliamentary republic in which the President of Guyana is both head of state and head of government. Executive power is exercised by the President,advised by a cabinet. Legislative power is vested in both the President and the National Assembly of Guyana. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.

Eusi Kwayana,formerly Sydney King,is a Guyanese politician. A cabinet minister in the People's Progressive Party (PPP) government of 1953,he was detained by the British Army in 1954. Later he left the PPP to form ASCRIA,a Pan-Africanist grassroots political group that,after a brief flirtation with the People's National Congress (PNC) of Forbes Burnham,fused into the Working People's Alliance (WPA). Kwayana is also a playwright.
Hamilton Belal Green is a Guyanese politician who served as the fourth Prime Minister of Guyana. He is the first and only Muslim Prime Minister of Guyana,along with being the first and only Muslim head of government in the Western Hemisphere. Green is an active trade unionist and active in politics since 1961. He was a member of People's National Congress (PNC) and chosen as one of the five Vice Presidents in the cabinet of Forbes Burnham in October 1980. He also served as the Prime Minister of Guyana from 6 August 1985 to 9 October 1992.
David Arthur Granger is a Guyanese former politician and retired military officer who served as the ninth president of Guyana from 2015 to 2020. A member of the People’s National Congress (PNC),he previously served as Commander of the Guyana Defence Force and as National Security Adviser from 1990 to 1992. He was leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Guyana from 2012 to 2015.

From October 1980 to September 1984 he was one of the Vice Presidents. Ramsaroop played a pivotal role in the establishment of Trinidad and Tobago's first diplomatic mission with the creation of the Guyana High Commission on Alexandra Street,Port-of-Spain in February 2020.
