Shekhar Kulbhushan Kapur is an Indian filmmaker and actor. Born into the Anand-Sahni family, Kapur is the recipient of several accolades, including a BAFTA Award, a National Film Award, a National Board of Review Award and three Filmfare Awards, in addition to nomination for a Golden Globe Award.
Rajkumar Santoshi is an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter of Hindi films. Having received several accolades including three National Film Awards and six Filmfare Awards, he made his directorial debut with the crime film Ghayal (1990), starring Sunny Deol, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Amrish Puri. Which was a huge critical and commercial success, it made Santoshi a household name in Hindi cinema. The film won him the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment as well as the Filmfare Award for Best Director.

The film released officially on 22 November 2013.

The film was adapted from the Punjabi novel Kaara — Hatthi by Sohan Singh Hans. Audience had a mainstream story with some Masala quality entertainment. Hindi film actress Rekha dubbed the lines for late actress Smita Patil who died before the film's release. Patil won the Best Actress trophy at the 2nd Star & Style-Lux Awards.
