Edward Walter Maunder was an English astronomer. His study of sunspots and the solar magnetic cycle led to his identification of the period from 1645 to 1715 that is now known as the Maunder Minimum.
The Society of Public Analysts was formed in the United Kingdom in 1874 and subsequently became the Society for Analytical Chemistry. It was incorporated in 1907.

Annie Scott Dill Maunder was an Irish-British astronomer, who recorded the first evidence of the movement of sunspot emergence from the poles toward the equator over the sun's 11-year cycle. She was one of the leading astronomers of her time, but because of her gender, her contribution was often underplayed at the time. In 1916 she was elected to the Royal Astronomical Society, 21 years after being refused membership because of her gender.
The British Mycological Society is a learned society established in 1896 to promote the study of fungi.

Lilian Martin-Leake was a British astronomer, science teacher and scientific illustrator, and a member of British Astronomical Association (BAA). She joined an expedition organized by the Association to observe the total eclipse of May 28, 1900. Along with four other members she was stationed on the roof of the Hotel de la Régence in Algiers to examine the structure of the corona through a 3” (75mm) aperture telescope. Lilian joined the Association on 31 May 1893 at the proposal of Alice Everett and seconded by A S D Russell.
