Joy Mathew (born 20 September 1961) is an Indian film and theatre actor. He is also a film director, playwright and screenwriter. He predominantly works in Malayalam cinema.
Joy Mathew is best known for playing the lead role in John Abraham's 1986 film Amma Ariyan [1] which was voted one of the Top 10 Indian films by British Film Institute. [2] In 2012, he made his directorial debut with Shutter which portrays unexpected incidents happening in two days and a night in the city of Kozhikode. The film had its Indian premiere at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala and international premiere at the 9th Dubai International Film Festival. It won the Silver Crow Pheasant Award for Best Feature Film (Audience Prize) at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala. Shutter was also screened at Chennai Film Festival (2012–13), Mumbai Film Festival (2012–13), Bangalore Film Festival (2012–13), Busan Film Festival (2012–13), Hamburg Film Festival (2012–13), and Indian Panorama (2012–13). Joy Mathew has written more than 22 plays in Malayalam, such as Madhyadharanyazhi (1994), Veeedukal Kathunnu (1999), Athirthikkal (1989), Sankadal (1996), Pretoria – 18 Oct (1996) and Chille 73 (1997). He received the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi award for his play Sankadal in 1996. He was honoured by Kerala Sahitya Academy for the Best Anthology of one act plays "Sisu" in 1994 and Madhyadhanyazhi for the Best Drama in 1995, Daivathinte Thoppi (2015), Poonaranga (2015), Raktha Thabala (2017). Joy Mathew was born to P. V. Mathew and Esther on 19 September 1959. [5] He married Saritha Ann Thomas who had been working as the head of sales at Electronics Company Dubai. The couple have three children: Mathew, Ann and Tania. [6]

John Abraham was an Indian filmmaker, short story writer and screenwriter who worked mainly in Malayalam cinema. His film Amma Ariyan (1986) was the only South Indian feature film to make the list of "Top 10 Indian Films" of all time by British Film Institute. Agraharathil Kazhuthai was listed among the "100 Greatest Indian Films" of all time by IBN Live's 2013 poll.
Thomas James, better known by his stage name Manikuttan, is an Indian actor who works primarily in the Malayalam film industry. Adimadhyantham is a 2011 Malayalam film written and directed by debutant Sherrey and produced by P. Rasheed, starring Prajith and Sajitha Madathil in the lead roles. Adimadhyantham won a special mention award at the 59th National Film Awards. The film is yet to get a theatrical release, but received generally positive reviews in its premiere show. It was the only Malayalam film selected to compete in the 16th International Film Festival of Kerala, but was later ousted on technical grounds, and after a huge scandal, was included for a non-competition screening.
Shutter is a 2012 Indian Malayalam thriller film written and directed by theater actor and playwright Joy Mathew in his directorial debut. The film set and filmed in Kozhikode, stars Lal, Sreenivasan, Vinay Forrt, Sajitha Madathil and Riya Saira. Renganaath Ravee does the sound design, and Hari Nair is the cinematographer. The film notably features a poem by Pablo Neruda, set to music and sung by Shahabaz Aman. Biby Sam and Jacob Panikker composed the background score for the film.

The film takes a closer look into the life of a 38-year-old woman living in a sleepy village in Wayanad, on her death, from the memories of a few persons who were part of her life. The film stars Biju Menon, Swetha Menon and Malavika in pivotal roles. The film was released on 14 September 2012 to mixed reviews. It won the FIPRESCI Award for Best Malayalam Film at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala.
Chayilyam is a 2014 Indian Malayalam-language film written and directed by Manoj Kana. The story is about the plight of a hapless widow, who is denied the freedom to lead a normal life by the society. The film was produced with contributions from more than 2,000 individuals and released in theatres in February 2014. The film received positive responses at film festivals.
Dileesh Philip, also known as Dileesh Pothan is an Indian film director, actor and producer, who works in Malayalam cinema. He made his directorial debut with the 2016 comedy drama film Maheshinte Prathikaaram, starring Fahadh Faasil. The film received the Best Feature Film in Malayalam Award at the 64th National Film Awards. Pothan also won the Best Director Award at the 64th Filmfare Awards South.
Babu Annur also known as C. K. Babu is an Indian film and theater actor, working predominantly in the Malayalam movie industry. He is actively involved in theater in Malayalam as an actor since 1974. He has done more than seventy-five plays as of 2020. Babu was born on 14 May 1962 in the municipality of Payyannur, Kannur, to Kunjirama Pothuval and Kodi Amma.
