Njaan (English: "I") is a 2014 Indian Malayalam-language period drama film directed by Ranjith [1] with Dulquer Salmaan in a dual role as K.T.N Kotoor and Ravi Chandrashekhar, [2] [3] along with Jyothi Krishna, Anumol and newcomer Shruti Ramachandran as the female leads. [4] The movie is based on the novel K T N Kottur Ezhuthum Jeevithavum by T. P. Rajeevan, which is set against the backdrop of India's freedom struggle and depicts history of a Kerala village. [5] The film was released on 19 September 2014. [6]
Ravi Chandrasekharan is a young blogger who has a keen interest in the life of KTN Kottur - a writer, poet and revolutionary freedom fighter. Ravi, being involved actively in theatre and arts, expresses his wish to recreate the story of KTN Kottur on stage rather than make it a book. To explore the different shades and the mysteries surrounding the man, he arrives in Kottur to learn the intricacies of the person.
After reaching Kottur, Ravi finds it strange to adapt to the surroundings, as he attends the cultural village faires and learns about their customs. Ravi, in one such incident, wakes up abruptly in the middle of the night covering his mouth because of nausea due to bad odour & he checks around but finds nothing. The next morning, he finds ashes of a dead creature & realises that this was the stench which made him uncomfortable & from then he encounters the twists in the life of KTN Kottur and the mystery surrounding his disappearance on the day India won her Independence.
It was the first time Ranjith and Dulquar joined hands for a film. [7] The first teaser of the film released on 12 June 2014 [8] followed by the second on 17 June. [9]

Ranjith Balakrishnan is an Indian film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor who works in Malayalam cinema. Ranjith made his directorial debut in 2001 with Ravanaprabhu, the sequel to Devaasuram. His films Thirakkatha and Indian Rupee won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam in 2008 and 2011 respectively. He is also the current chairman of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.
Kalpana Ranjani, better known mononymously as Kalpana, was an Indian actress who appeared in South Indian films, predominantly in Malayalam and Tamil. Kalpana has acted in over 300 films in various South Indian languages. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Thanichalla Njan (2012) at the 60th National Film Awards. Kalpana started her career as a child artist in the late 1970s. Rajeev Ravi is an Indian cinematographer, director, and producer from Kochi, Kerala. He's best known for his work in Hindi and Malayalam films. After graduating from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in 1997, he started his career by assisting in the Malayalam film, Pranayavarnangal (1998) shot by Santosh Thundiyil. He debuted as a cinematographer with the film Chandni Bar (2001), when he was launched by producer R. Mohan when the original cinematographer Venu had date clashes. The film was directed by Madhur Bhandarkar.

The film deals about the journey of two young American Malayalees to Kerala. The title is based on the term American-Born Confused Desi. Released on 14 June 2013, the film received positive reviews and was commercially successful. It marked the first collaboration between Dulquer Salmaan and Martin Prakkat. The film was remade into Telugu in 2019 with the same name.
