The 1999 African Judo Championships were the 21st edition of the African Judo Championships, organised by the African Judo Union and were held in Johannesburg, South Africa from 11 September 1999 to 14 September 1999. [1]

He won a total of judo Sa Championship 12 gold medals.

Mélanie Engoang Nguema is a Gabonese judoka and coach, who played for the half-heavyweight category. She is a five-time medalist for her division at the African Judo Championships, and gold medalist at the 1999 All-Africa Games in Johannesburg, South Africa. She also competed at four Summer Olympic games, but she neither reached the final round, nor claimed an Olympic medal. For being the most experienced member at the Olympics, Engoang was the nation's three-time flag bearer at the opening ceremonies.

Henriette Moller is a South African judoka, who competed in the women's half-middleweight category. She picked up a total of twelve medals in her career, including a silver from the 2004 African Judo Championships in Tunis, Tunisia and a bronze from the 1999 All-Africa Games in Johannesburg, and represented her nation South Africa in the 63-kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Naina Cécilia Ravaoarisoa is a Malagasy judoka who competed in the women's half-lightweight category. She picked up a total of six medals in her career, including a bronze from the 1999 All-Africa Games in Johannesburg, South Africa, and represented her nation Madagascar in two editions of the Olympic Games.

African Judo Championships is a continental judo championship organized by the African Judo Union. The 1965, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2007 editions were held during the respective African Games.

Mbagnick Ndiaye is a Senegalese judoka. He represented Senegal at the 2019 African Games held in Rabat, Morocco and he won the gold medal in the men's +100 kg event. Christy Obekpa now Mrs Aremu is a Nigerian judoka who competed in the women's half heavyweight category. She won a bronze medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Judo Games and a silver medal at the 1992 CW Judo Championships. Mrs Aremu is the first woman Nigeria judo commonwealth medalist. She also won two bronze medals at the 1999 All-Africa Games and a bronze medal at the 2000 African Judo Championships.

Tato Grigalashvili is a Georgian judoka. He is a three-time medalist, including two gold medals, in the men's 81 kg event at the World Judo Championships. He is also a two-time gold medalist in his event at the European Judo Championships.

Chicmah Obodo is a Nigerian judoka who competed in the women's category. She won a bronze medal at the 1999 All-Africa Games in the –70 kg category.

In 2021, she won the silver medal in her event at the African Judo Championships held in Dakar, Senegal. She also won one of the bronze medals in this event in 2014, 2019 and 2020.
