The World Judo Championships are the highest level of international judo competition, along with the Olympic judo competition. The championships are held once every year by the International Judo Federation, and qualified judoka compete in their respective categories as representatives of their home countries. Team competitions have also been held since 1994. The men's championships began in 1956, though the format and periodicity of the championships have changed over time. The last edition of the championships took place in Budapest, Hungary in 2021.
The 1999 World Judo Championships were the 21st edition of the World Judo Championships, and were held in Birmingham, Great Britain in 1999.
The 2004 Asian Judo Championships were held at the Baluan Sholak Palace of Culture and Sports in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 15 May to 16 May 2004. A total of 194 judokas participated, 113 men and 81 women.

Peter Paltchik is a Ukrainian-born Israeli judoka, competing in the under 100 kg weight category, of which he is the current number 1 ranked Judoka in the world. In September 2019 he won the Israeli championship in the 100+ Kg category. Paltchik won the gold medal at the 2020 European Judo Championships in Prague on November 21, 2020, beating Russian judoka Arman Adamian in the final, Adding to his bronze medal from the 2018 European Judo Championships in Tel Aviv. Paltchik also won a bronze medal in the mixed team judo competition in the 2021 Olympics.
Shiho Tanaka is a Japanese judoka. She won the gold medal in the women's middleweight event at the 2019 Summer Universiade held in Naples, Italy. She also won the gold medal in the women's team event.
Kachakorn Warasiha is a Thai judoka. She is a gold medalist in the women's 52 kg event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines and a bronze medalist in this event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
