Juha Leimu (born January 30, 1983 in Tampere, Finland) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey defenceman.
Leimu made his SM-liiga debut in 2009–10 when he was offered an eight-game trial period with Tappara having spent the start of the season in Lempäälän Kisa. After the tryout his contract was extended for the rest of the season. [1] Leimu recorded 24 points in 36 games and was awarded a three-year extension in May 2010. [2] In 2010–11 Leimu had his career season with 12 goals and 31 points in 50 games.
After his contract with Tappara expired, Pelicans signed Leimu to a two-year contract on April 26, 2013. [3] During his opening season in Lahti Leimu led all Pelicans defencemen in goals scored with 10. In the 2013–14 playoffs Leimu scored the overtime goal in Game 2 that eliminated HIFK in the opening round. [4]
Prior the 2014–15 season Leimu was named the team captain. [5] Leimu was sidelined on multiple occasions during the season due to injuries [6] [7] and recorded 16 points in 40 games. On November 20, 2014 he signed a two-year contract extension with Pelicans. [8]
Leimu holds the Liiga record for the fastest hat-trick after scoring three power-play goals in just 44 seconds in a 5–6 overtime loss against JYP Jyväskylä on December 15, 2015. [9] Leimu's 16 goals in 2015–16 season were a league high for defensemen.
Leimu played for Finland national team in a friendly games against Slovakia in 2011. [10]

The SM-liiga, colloquially called the Finnish Elite League in English or FM-ligan in Swedish, is the top professional ice hockey league in Finland. It was created in 1975 to replace the SM-sarja, which was fundamentally an amateur league. The SM-liiga is not directly overseen by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, but the league and association have an agreement of cooperation. SM is a common abbreviation for Suomen mestaruus, "Finnish championship".
Helsingin Jokerit are a semi-professional ice hockey team based in Helsinki, Finland, that plays in Mestis. Jokerit plays its home games at Keravan jäähalli in Kerava. The team won six league championships as a member of the Finnish SM-liiga. The team was a part of the Bobrov Division of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Western Conference starting in the 2014–15 season, making Finland the first Nordic country to have a team in the league.
Tappara is a Finnish professional ice hockey team playing in the Liiga. They play at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland. The team has won 19 Finnish league championships. The team continued the traditions of TBK, who won three national championships in a row in 1953, 1954 and 1955.
Porin Ässät is a professional ice hockey club based in the town of Pori, Finland. They play in the Finnish elite league, Liiga. They play in the Isomäki Areena. The team is also referred to as Pata, The Red Machine of Pori and Pubijoukkue.
Kiekko-Espoo Naiset are an ice hockey team in the Naisten Liiga. They play in the Tapiola district of Espoo, Finland at the harjoitusareena ('training arena') of the Tapiolan urheilupuisto. The team was founded as Espoon Kiekkoseura (EKS) in 1989 and has also been known as Espoo Blues Naiset and Espoo United Naiset during its tenure in the Naisten Liiga. Kiekko-Espoo have won the Aurora Borealis Cup as the Finnish Champions in women's ice hockey sixteen times, six more wins than any other team in league history; at least one Finnish Championship medal (gold, silver, or bronze) was won under each of the four names.
Ville Sakari Peltonen is a Finnish ice hockey coach and a former professional ice hockey forward. Peltonen was drafted by the San Jose Sharks as their third round pick, 58th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. During his professional career, he has played 382 NHL games for Sharks, Nashville Predators and Florida Panthers. Internationally, he represented the Finland men's national ice hockey team, and was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2016.
Kari Markus Granlund is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward, who is currently playing with HC Lugano of the National League (NL). After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, he elected to leave the KHL team Salavat Yulaev Ufa. He is a second-round selection of the Calgary Flames, taken 45th overall at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Granlund played two seasons in the SM-liiga for HIFK before moving to North America to join the Flames organization in 2013. His older brother Mikael plays in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The last two game days of the regular season were scheduled to be played in front of an empty arena due to the Finnish government advising that all public events with more than 500 attendees would be cancelled or postponed. On 13 March, the rest of the season, which included the final round of the regular season and all of playoffs, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020–21 Liiga season was the 46th season of the Liiga, the top level of ice hockey in Finland, since the league's formation in 1975. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic all the games had to be played to a very limited audience or no audience at all. Two teams have temporarily let go of their coaches due to financial reasons: JYP and SaiPa. The season was Hakametsä's last full season.

Kiekko-Espoo is a Finnish professional ice hockey club founded in 2018 as a continuation of the Kiekko-Espoo team originally founded in 1984. Kiekko-Espoo men's team plays in the Mestis, where they have won one championship (2022–23), and the women's team plays in the Naisten Liiga. Kiekko-Espoo's junior teams play at national league levels in U16, U18 and U20 juniors. The junior teams of Espoo Blues and Kiekko-Espoo played under Kiekko-Espoo Juniorit ry until 2014.
