Julie A. Rosen (born August 9,1957) is an American politician serving as a member of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota,she represents District 23,which includes all or portions of Blue Earth,Faribault,Jackson,Le Sueur,Martin,Waseca,and Watonwan counties in the southern part of the state. [1]
Originally from Colorado,Rosen graduated from high school in Denver,and later graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Colorado State University. She worked as a marketing representative for both Elanco and American Hoechst Chemical Company prior to being elected to the legislature.
Rosen represented District 24 in the Senate from 2003 to 2013. She was redistricted to District 23 in 2012. Her service earned her the "Freshman Legislator of the Year" award.[ citation needed ]
As a freshman senator,Rosen earned the distinction of being a leading authority on methamphetamine and other drug-related issues. She organized the Minnesota Meth Task Force and,under her direction and leadership,developed and passed the groundbreaking Minnesota Meth bill in 2005. This law is the most aggressive and comprehensive meth legislation in the nation. [ citation needed ] She continues to work passionately towards fighting drug use among children and adults. [2] [3]
Along with her work on drug and public safety issues,former Governor Tim Pawlenty (R) called Rosen a "strong voice for rural Minnesota." She has a background in agriculture. She is also active in seeking improvements in health care, [4] working towards finding a more affordable and beneficial cost and delivery program that supplies the people of Minnesota with better health care benefits. In November 2008,she was appointed by Pawlenty to the Rural Health Advisory Committee. The Rural Health Advisory Committee advises the Minnesota Commissioner of Health and other state agencies on rural health issues. It consists of 15 members appointed by the Governor. [5]
Rosen consistently voted against the legalization of same-sex marriage. In 2006,she voted to force a Minnesota marriage amendment out of committee and onto the floor. [6] In 2011,Rosen voted to place a same-sex marriage ban question on Minnesota's 2012 ballot. [7] She voted against the 2013 bill to legalize same-sex marriage in Minnesota. [8]
In 2008,Rosen voted against a bill (SF 960) that would have allowed local governments to offer whatever health benefits they chose,including domestic partner benefits,to their employees. [9] In 2009,Rosen voted against school anti-bullying legislation (SF 971) that would protect LGBTQ youth. [10] She voted for the Limmer Amendment to SF 971,which specifies that the bill does not imply that Minnesota condones homosexuality or bisexuality,nor that education institutions are permitted to promote homosexuality or bisexuality or require them to be taught as "acceptable lifestyles." [11] In 2009 and 2010,Rosen voted against a bill (SF 341) that would provide death rights to domestic partners. [9]
Following her re-election in 2012,Rosen was mentioned as a potential candidate for Senator or Governor of Minnesota. [12]
On February 17,2022;Rosen announced she would be retiring at the end of her current term and would not seek re-election in 2022. [13]
She was married to Tom Rosen until 2010. Tom Rosen is the CEO of Rosen's Diversified,Inc.,a Fairmont company that specializes in beef processing and agricultural chemical distribution and fertilizers. They are the parents of three children. [14]
In 2005,she was honored as the first female to receive the Alumni of the Year award from the College of Agricultural Sciences at Colorado State University.[ citation needed ]
The Minnesota House of Representatives is the lower house of the U.S. state of Minnesota's legislature. It operates in conjunction with the Minnesota Senate,the state's upper house,to craft and pass legislation,which is then subject to approval by the governor of Minnesota.
The Minnesota Legislature is the bicameral legislature of the U.S. state of Minnesota consisting of two houses:the Senate and the House of Representatives. Senators are elected from 67 single-member districts. In order to account for decennial redistricting,members run for one two-year term and two four-year terms each decade. They are elected for four-year terms in years ending in 2 and 6,and for two-year terms in years ending in 0. Representatives are elected for two-year terms from 134 single-member districts formed by dividing the 67 senate districts in half.

James Murray Vickerman was an American politician from Minnesota who served as Minnesota State Senator,first elected in 1986 in the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's "firestorm" that swept southwestern Minnesota during the height of the 1980s Midwestern farm crisis. In that election,he unseated incumbent Senator Doran Isackson,winning by a substantial margin. He was re-elected in 1990,1992,1996,2000,2002 and 2006. On February 22,2010,he announced that he would not seek an eighth term,noting that he was doing so "with the satisfaction that when it's done right,our government can and does serve people." His term officially ended on January 3,2011.
Satveer Singh Chaudhary is an American criminal defense and immigration lawyer. He is also a politician and a former member of the Minnesota State Senate and the Minnesota House of Representatives serving from 1996 to 2010. During his fourteen-year tenure,Chaudhary represented portions of Anoka and Ramsey counties in the northern Minneapolis and St Paul metropolitan area. The Senate District at the time of his departure from politics was known as Senate District 50. However,Chaudhary also represented the area in the Minnesota House from 1997-2000 as District 52A;and in the Senate from 2001 to 2002 as Senate District 52. While in office,Chaudhary served as a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party,was the first Asian American legislator in Minnesota history. He was also the first South Asian senator in American history and for a time was the highest ranking political official of South Asian descent,as well as one of the youngest senators in that state's history.
Patricia Torres Ray is a Colombian-American politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL),she represented District 63,which includes portions of southeastern Minneapolis and eastern Richfield in Hennepin County in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. She is the first Latina woman to serve in the Minnesota Senate. She ran for Congress in Minnesota's 5th district in 2018 to succeed Congressman Keith Ellison,but lost the primary to Ilhan Omar. In November 2021,she announced that she would not run for reelection in 2022.
