Jun (stylized as JUN) is a Japanese visual kei rock musician and singer-songwriter who is currently a guitarist of Gotcharocka. He was previously in the bands Se'lavy, Mar'derayla, Kisaki & Kansai Kizoku, Phantasmagoria, Toshi with T-Earth and Spiv States. He has also released solo material under his own name and the alias Attic.

Band history

Se'lavy and Mar'derayla

Jun's first known band was Se'lavy. Not much is known about them except that Iori was also in the group. [1] His second band Mar'derayla formed in 2002 and were signed to Under Code Production, [1] a sublabel of Free-Will run by Jun's future bandmate Kisaki. The group also contained Iori on guitar, Hayato on vocals, Hagane on bass and Rui on drums. Their debut mini-album Kiseki... Ring was released in May 2003, Rui left soon after and was replaced by Toki in June. [1] They announced they would be disbanding after the release of "Love & Peace & Horror" on March 10, 2004, but officially disbanded on August 1. [1]

Phantasmagoria

In 2004, Jun approached bassist Kisaki to start a band together, Phantasmagoria. Having already been through many visual kei bands by this point, Kisaki said it was Jun who reignited his love of bands; "He was an excellent guitarist, and the songs he created were cool. I compose music by myself, but I have always liked bands where the guitarist is the main composer, so I thought of Jun as the sound master of the band." [2] They disbanded in 2007, but reunited for special shows in the following few years.

Solo

When Phantasmagoria disbanded in 2007, Jun quickly started releasing solo material under the name Attic (stylized as "attic"). The first release being Atomic Smile on March 7 on Under Code Productions. [3] This was followed with Mechanical Ugly Gang on December 17. [4] He then released the single "Look for "Mr. Name"" on August 6, 2008, under his own name on the label Daiki Sound. [5] It came in two editions, each containing a different A-side.

Spiv States

Spiv States (stylized as "SPIV STATES" and previously as "spiv states") was formed as a duo in November 2009 with Jun on vocals and guitar and his longtime friend Iori also on guitar. They had their first show on November 18 and released their debut single "Viva Sonic" in December. [6] Spiv States became the first band signed to the record label Cloud in April 2010 and released the single "Flavor" on August 25, which featured former Plastic Tree drummer Hiroshi Sasabuchi. [7] Their next single "Glider" also featured Hiroshi. September 22, 2010 was the last show with Iori, as he left the group due to bad health caused by a herniated disc in his back. [8] Guitarist Ryo, bassist Zechs and drummer Seiya joined Spiv States in December. However, they all decided to leave the group and had their last concert on July 13, 2011. That same day was the release of the mini-album Futari no Hoshi, which featured former Die in Cries bassist Takashi and Sads drummer Go. It included the song "Always", which was written after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. [9] Jun continued Spiv States as the only official member with revolving support musicians. In 2012, he announced that Spiv States will be taking a break from all activities and leave the Maverick DC Label. [10]

Gotcharocka

In May 2012, Jun formed the supergroup Gotcharocka (stylized as "GOTCHAROCKA") with former Vidoll vocalist Jui and former Charlotte guitarist Toya (ex-Charlotte). [11] Bassist Shingo (ex-Sugar) was also part of the lineup, until leaving the band in 2014. Gotcharocka is signed to God Child Records, which was founded by D vocalist Asagi. [12] They contributed a cover of "Oblaat" to the 2013 Hide tribute album Tribute II -Visual Spirits-. [13]

Numerous stylistic changes have made the genre of their music difficult to determine, though it is generally considered to be a form of metal. Originally a visual kei band, the members later opted for more subtle attire, but have continued to maintain a dramatic image on stage.

Moi dix Mois is a Japanese visual kei gothic metal band, founded in 2002 by Mana after Malice Mizer paused activities. The guitarist and sole songwriter has been the only constant member in a series of lineup changes, and the band's material is released on his own record label Midi:Nette.

Siam Shade was a five-piece Japanese rock band, formed in Tokyo in 1991. The classic line-up of Hideki on vocals, Natchin on bass, Kazuma and Daita on guitar, and Jun-ji on drums broke onto the visual kei scene alongside a multitude of other artists in the early 1990s and enjoyed a decade of relative popularity before disbanding in early 2002. The members have reunited several times since 2007 for one-off concerts and short tours. Outside Japan, Siam Shade is best known for "1/3 no Junjō na Kanjō", which was the sixth ending theme of the Rurouni Kenshin anime. Daita's work on their song "Triptych" was named the 83rd best guitar instrumental by Young Guitar Magazine in 2019.

Hideto Matsumoto, known professionally as hide, was a Japanese musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the rock band X Japan from 1987 to 1997 and a solo artist from 1993 onward. He also formed the United States-based rock supergroup Zilch in 1996.

Pierrot was a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 1994 in Nagano. After changing their name from Dizy-Lizy to Pierrot and several member changes, the final lineup was completed in 1995 with Kirito on vocals, Jun and Aiji on guitar, Kohta on bass and Takeo on drums. After roughly ten years together, Pierrot disbanded in 2006. Their final single was named "Hello", an apt title for a band who started their major career with an album called Finale.

Phantasmagoria was a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in Osaka in November 2004, by bassist Kisaki and guitarist Jun. They became one of the three biggest bands on Kisaki's own independent record label, Under Code Production.

Raphael was a Japanese visual kei rock band that formed in 1997, when the members were only 15. They disbanded in 2001, after guitarist Kazuki died at age 19. The remaining members reunited Raphael for two concerts in 2012 and for a 2016 tour.

Sophia is a Japanese rock band formed in 1994 by vocalist Mitsuru Matsuoka, guitarist Kazutaka Toyota, bassist Yoshio Kuroyanagi, drummer Yoshitomo Akamatsu and keyboardist Keiichi Miyako. Currently signed to Avex Trax since 2011, they made their major debut in 1995 on Toy's Factory. They changed over to Toshiba EMI in 2004, and Universal Music Japan in 2009.

La'cryma Christi was a Japanese visual kei rock band originally active from 1991 to 2007. At their peak, they were considered one of "the big four of visual kei" alongside Fanatic Crisis, Malice Mizer and Shazna. They reunited for a concert in 2009 at the V-Rock Festival, for their short reunion tour in 2010, and for a 15th anniversary tour in 2012.

Tadashi Matsuura, known exclusively by his stage name Kisaki (きさき), is a Japanese musician, record producer and businessman, whose career in the visual kei scene spans more than 30 years. He is best known for having been the bassist of several bands, including La:Sadie's, Mirage, Syndrome, Kisaki Project, and Phantasmagoria. When Phantasmagoria disbanded in 2007, Kisaki announced his retirement as an active musician. However, in 2010, he ended his retirement and formed the band Lin -The End of Corruption World-.

Satsuki (砂月) is a Japanese musician and singer, best known as vocalist of the visual kei rock band Rentrer en Soi. He was a member of the band from its creation in 2001 until its disbandment in 2008, before launching a solo career in 2009. In 2011, Satsuki formed the duo Moon Stream and joined Kisaki Project. He counts Dir En Grey, Nirvana, and U2 among his musical influences.

Defspiral is a Japanese visual kei alternative metal band composed of most of the former members of the Underneath. When the Underneath disbanded in 2010, most of the group was signed to Avex Mode to perform songs for the Kamen Rider Series. This occurred with a change to their style to a smoother, slicker and more seductive style than their previous incarnations.
