K'ark'ani (Aymara k'ark'a crevice, fissure, crack, [2] -ni a suffix, "the one with the crevice", also spelled Kharkhani, erroneously also Khaikhani, Khaskhani) [3] [1] [4] is a mountain in the Bolivian Andes which reaches a height of approximately 4,700 m (15,400 ft). It is located in the La Paz Department, Loayza Province, on the border of the municipalities of Luribay and Sapahaqui (Sapa Jaqhi). K'ark'ani lies northwest of Q'ara Qullu and southwest of Wila Qullu. The Achachi Qala River flows along its western slope. There is a little lake east of K'ark'ani. Its name is Wila Quta ("red lake"). [1] [4]

A fracture is any separation in a geologic formation, such as a joint or a fault that divides the rock into two or more pieces. A fracture will sometimes form a deep fissure or crevice in the rock. Fractures are commonly caused by stress exceeding the rock strength, causing the rock to lose cohesion along its weakest plane. Fractures can provide permeability for fluid movement, such as water or hydrocarbons. Highly fractured rocks can make good aquifers or hydrocarbon reservoirs, since they may possess both significant permeability and fracture porosity.

It is situated in the La Paz Department, Larecaja Province, Sorata Municipality, north of the main range of the Cordillera Real. Wankar Quta Qullu lies northeast of the mountain Wila Wilani. South of it there is a lake named Q'asiri Quta. A little river named Q'asiri Jawira originates here. It flows to Ch'uch'u Jawira in the south.
