Krishnan Vinod Chandran is a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. [1] [2] [3] [4] He has served as the 44th Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. He is also a former Judge of Kerala High Court.
After graduating from the Union Christian College,Aluva,Vinod Chandran was employed at the State Bank of Travancore in Kochi. [5] During his stint at the bank,he enrolled as a law student at the Kerala Law Academy Law College,Thiruvananthapuram,and started his practice at Paravoor in the year 1991 and later extended to the High Court of Kerala. During his practice he served as Special Government Pleader (Taxes) of the Government of Kerala from 2007 to 2011.
Vinod Chandran was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court on 8 November 2011 and was made permanent on 24 June 2013. [2] [3] He was appointed as Chief Justice of Patna High Court on 29 March 2023. On 1 August 2023,Patna High Court's division bench,comprising Chief Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Justice Partha Sarathy,gave judgement that holding a caste survey in Bihar is valid and legal. [6] The division bench passed the order in its 101-page verdict [7] [8] [9] while dismissing all petitions challenging the survey. [10] [11]
On 16 January 2025,he took oath as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
The High Court of Kerala is the highest court in the Indian state of Kerala and the Union territory of Lakshadweep. It is located in Kochi. Drawing its powers under Article 226 of the Constitution of India,the High Court has the power to issue directions,orders and writs including the writs of habeas corpus,mandamus,prohibition,quo warranto and certiorari for ensuring the enforcement of the Fundamental Rights guaranteed by the Constitution to citizens or for other specified purposes. The High Court is empowered with original,appellate and revisional jurisdiction in civil as well as criminal matters,and the power to answer references to it under some statutes. The High Court has the superintendence and visitorial jurisdiction over all courts and tribunals of inferior jurisdiction covered under its territorial jurisdiction.
The High Court of Judicature at Patna is the High Court of the state of Bihar. It was established on 3 February 1916 by British colonial government and was later affiliated under the Government of India Act 1915,making it one of the oldest High Courts of India.

Dipak Misra is an Indian jurist who served as the 45th Chief Justice of India from 28 August 2017 till 2 October 2018. He is also former Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and Delhi High Court. He is the nephew of Justice Ranganath Misra,who was the 21st Chief Justice from 1990 to 1991.

She was the first woman Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court,was the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court and the first female judge of the Karnataka High Court. She demitted her office upon attaining the age of superannuation on 4 December 2017.

Her selection engendered controversy after lawyers alleged her to have given hate speeches against religious minorities and unsuccessfully petitioned the Supreme Court of India to withdraw the appointment.
The 2022 Bihar Caste Based Survey was notified by the Government of Bihar on 6 June 2022 by gazette notification after a Supreme Court ruling. The survey was conducted in two phases,house listing and caste and economic enumeration. The data collection for the survey began on 7 January 2023 and the data was released on 2 October 2023. The responsibility to conduct the survey was given to the General Administration Department (GAD) of the Government of Bihar. The government planned to collect the data digitally by mobile application named Bijaga- Bihar Jaati Adharit Ganana. BELTRON,a Government of Bihar agency provided IT support,hired the services of a Maharashtra-based private firm Trigyn Technologies to develop the mobile app.
