The K11 Art Foundation (KAF) is a non-profit art foundation based in Central, Hong Kong, named for an eponymous shopping centre and established[ when? ] by the shopping centre's operator. [1] It supports the development of Chinese contemporary art from Greater China by providing creative incubation platforms. [2]
The K11 Art Village hosts an Artist-in-Residence Programme, [3] where certain resources are made available to invited artists. [2] It also hosts activities and exhibitions, screenings, and talks for the artists-in-residence. [4]
Master of impressionism – Claude Monet
KAF organised, with the Musée Marmottan Monet, [5] the first ever exhibition of Claude Monet in mainland China. [6]
The show included 40 original Monet paintings on loan from the Musée Marmottan Monet, including the Water Lily and Wisteria, and 12 original paintings by Impressionist artists Berthe Morisot and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Half of the Monet paintings owned by Musée Marmottan Monet, were in the exhibition. [7] The exhibition was organised in collaboration with the Musée Marmottan Monet and held at the Chi K11 Art Museum inside K11 Art Mall in Shanghai, from March 8 to June 15, 2014, and attracted 3,409,000 visitors. The China Symposium in The Armory Show
KAF supported the China Symposium that was held on March 8–9 of the 2014 Armory Show. [9] [10]
It provided insight into the landscape of Chinese contemporary art by showcasing a selection of 17 established and emerging galleries from mainland China and Hong Kong, many of which had never exhibited outside China before. The China Symposium included speakers from Asia and other areas, including artists, journalists, curators, collectors, gallerists, and academics for conversations that elaborated on Chinese contemporary art. It presented an overview of the art scene in China. [11]
Inside China - L’Intérieur du GÉant
The exhibition Inside China – L’Intérieur du Geant inaugurated a three-year collaboration between the K11 Art Foundation and Palais de Tokyo (Paris), that focused on showcasing emerging art scenes in China and France, with a series of presentations in both countries. [12] [13]
It was first exhibited at Palais de Tokyo (Paris) in October 2014, and moved to Hong Kong in 2015. [14] Artists involved included Cheng Ran, Item Idem, Mathis Collins, Renaud Jerez, Li Gang, Edwin Lo, Jonathan Martin, Nadar, Aude Pariset, Wu Hao, Yu Ji and Zhao Yao.
The 2nd “CAFAM Future” Exhibition: The Reality Representation of Chinese Young Art
The exhibition was launched under a 3 years collaborative plan between KAF and Central Academy of Fine Art Museum (CAFAM), [15] and this exhibition was devoted to discovering and supporting Chinese young art talents, which included over 90 Chinese artists. [15] After the Beijing exhibition was held in January 2015, the Hong Kong exhibition was launched in May 2015.
Event Horizon
Event Horizon is a global public art installation project that displays large-scale public sculpture installations by English artist Sir Antony Gormley. KAF is a partner of Event Horizon of Hong Kong station, which was presented by the British Council in November 2015. [16] 31 sculptures by Antony Gormley were installed across a kilometer wide zone of Hong Kong Central and Western district at both street level and building tops. Hong Kong was the first Asian city to stage those sculptures following presentations in London, Rotterdam, New Work, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. [17]
Media—Dalí
KAF co-operated with Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation to launch a temporary exhibition named Media-Dalí from 5 Nov 2015 to 15 Feb 2016 at Chi K11 Art Museum in K11 Art Mall in Shanghai. 240 original works and media works by Salvador Dalí were selected from archives in Figueres, Spain. [18] [19] [20] [21]
Shanghai Gesture included Chinese contemporary painters Wang Xingwei (simplified Chinese :王兴伟; traditional Chinese :王興偉), Zhou Tiehai (simplified Chinese :周铁海; traditional Chinese :周鐵海), and Zhang Enli (simplified Chinese :张恩利; traditional Chinese :張恩利). [18]
WE: A Community of Chinese Contemporary Artists
Presented by KAF at Chi K11 Art Museum in K11 Art Mall in Shanghai, WE: A Community of Chinese Contemporary Artists featured over 50 artworks in different mediums including painting, sculpture, installation, performance art and theatre performance. [22] [23]

K11 Art Foundation collaborates with Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Musee Marmottan in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Armory Show in New York, Institutes of Contemporary Art, London (ICA), [30] Centre Pompidou (Paris) [31] and the Gala - Salvador Dalí Foundation. [32] [33]

Musée Marmottan Monet is an art museum in Paris, France, dedicated to artist Claude Monet. The collection features over three hundred Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings by Claude Monet, including his 1872 Impression, Sunrise. The museum's fame is the result of a donation in 1966 by Michel Monet, Claude's second son and only heir.
K11 is a shopping mall, located on Huaihai Lu of the Xintiandi district, in the former Luwan District of Shanghai, China. It is 278 m high and was designed by Bregman and Hamann Architects. The mall consists of six stories above ground, and three underground, with a total area of about 40,000 m2. It overlooks the People's Square across the Yan'an Elevated Road. Formerly called the Hong Kong New World Tower, the building was reopened on May 28, 2013, as K11.
Event Horizon is the name of a large-scale public sculpture installation by the British artist Antony Gormley. First displayed in London in 2007, they were later displayed in New York, downtown São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gormley describes his statues as "...showing solitary figures installed in groups yet retaining their sense of solitude and reflection."
Cui Jie is a Chinese artist who specializes in oil painting and 3-D printed sculpture. Cui's body of work is largely characterized by her play with space and dimensionality, which take shape in her geometric imaginings of Chinese cityscapes. The most common subjects of her works are models of Chinese cultural landmarks of the 1980s and 1990s, such as Shanghai Bank Tower, which are either already or soon-to-be demolished. These towering structures are often surrounded by organic, swirling shapes to place them in a constant state of motion and transition, yet a 'sinofuturistic' context which both revives and reinvents their initial purposes.
Yang Yongliang is a Chinese contemporary artist.
Liu Chuang (刘窗）) is a Chinese artist who currently lives and works in Beijing. He was born in 1979 and graduated from Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in 2001. His work, "Buying Everything on You" was featured in The Generational: Younger Than Jesus exhibition that took place at the New Museum in 2009. The show was curated by Massimiliano Gioni. As part of an ongoing project, "Buying Everything on You" was also on view at Frieze New York 2013, and was presented by the Shanghai-based gallery Leo Xu Projects.
Wong Chi Hang Sara is a Hong Kong-based visual artist and landscape architect. Wong graduated with a BA degree in Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1992 and an MA in Landscape Architecture from the University of Hong Kong.
Zhao Yao is an artist in installations as well as performance, video and photography. He grew up in Sichuan and currently lives and works in Beijing.
Adrian Cheng Chi-kong is a Hong Kong entrepreneur and business executive. He is the CEO and executive vice-chairman of the Hong Kong-listed New World Development, and executive director of jewelry company Chow Tai Fook. He is also the founder of K11, which has a portfolio of commercial, cultural and residential projects. He is the son of property developer Henry Cheng and grandson of Cheng Yu-tung.
Fu Wenjun graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. He is a contemporary artist who works on photography, digital art, installation art, sculpture, and oil painting. Currently, he lives and works at Chongqing. He has developed his concept and practices of “Digital Pictorial Photography” art style.

Luke Ching Chin Wai is a conceptual artist and labour activist from Hong Kong. His artistic practice twists the role of the artist and observer and has created works which, with a mix of humour, respond to the cultural and political collisions in Hong Kong. He studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and graduated with an MA in Fine Art in 1998. He has participated in exhibitions and residencies worldwide.
