The Kakhovka operational group, or operational grouping of troops "Kakhovka", is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces in Ukraine active in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The operational group participated in the Liberation of Kherson as part of the southern Ukrainian counteroffensive.
The Kakhovka operational group participated in the 2022 Ukrainian southern counteroffensive on Russian position in the Kherson Oblast on the western bank of the Dnipro River. On August 29, the operational group reported operations against Russian forces, also reporting that the 109th Regiment of the Donetsk People's Republic and Russian airborne forces abandoned their positions. [2] [3] Video released by the operational group of their claimed breakthrough in the Kherson front lines was accompanied by statements confirming offensive operations by Ukraine's Operational Command South. Kherson Oblast, also known as Khersonshchyna, is an oblast (province) in southern Ukraine. It is located just north of Crimea. Its administrative center is Kherson, on the west bank of the Dnieper which bisects the oblast. The area of the region is 28,461 km2 and the population 1,016,707. It is considered the 'fruit basket' of the country, as much of its agricultural production is dispersed throughout the country, with production peaking during the summer months.
The Kinburn Spit is a spit in Mykolaiv Raion, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine, with the only land access being through Kherson Oblast. It occupies the westernmost part of the Kinburn Peninsula, being its natural extension stretching west into the Black Sea between the Dnieper-Bug estuary to the north and the Yahorlyk Bay to the south. It is approximately 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) long, with a width of about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) at its base, narrowing to about 100 metres (330 ft) in its western half.

The battle of Davydiv Brid was a Ukrainian counter-offensive operation during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. In reaction to Russia's southern Ukraine offensive, Ukrainian forces attempted to recapture part of the Russian-occupied Kherson Oblast and tie up Russian resources. The counter-offensive began on 27 May 2022 and was centered near the village of Davydiv Brid, which was recaptured by Ukraine, however they were pushed back over the Inhulets River by 16 June 2022. However, another bridgehead near Lozove was retained by Ukrainian forces. In a subsequent Ukrainian southern counteroffensive that was launched two and a half months later, Davydiv Brid was reported as captured by Ukrainian forces on 4 October.
