Turbat is a city in southern Balochistan, Pakistan, and the administrative centre of Kech District. Situated on the Kech River, Turbat was the historical capital of the State of Makran. Turbat is the second-largest city in Balochistan Province after Quetta, and is the largest city in the southern part of the province. The Gwadar Port is about 120 kilometres (75 mi) to the southwest of Turbat.

It is located 360 kilometres (220 mi) west of Karachi and 230 kilometres (140 mi) east of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea. This port is also mentioned in Periplus of the Erythraean Sea as Oraea.

Kalmati is a Baloch clan settled in the Balochistan and Sindh provinces of Pakistan. The clan's name comes from the small city of Kalmat, situated between Iran and Pakistan. They are part of the Hooth Tribe, claiming descent from Hooth, a son of Jalal Khan. When the Hooths were ruling Kech Makran, a few members of the tribe settled in Kalmat, near the port of Pasni, in the coastal area of Balochistan. In the 12th century, the Kalmati had spread from Tehs Bandar in the western part of Balochistan to Shah Bandar in Sindh. Today, the Kalmati tribes live throughout the districts and towns of Balochistan and Shindh.
The Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW), is a major defence contractor and military corporation situated in West Wharf in Karachi, Pakistan. It is the oldest and the only shipyard in Pakistan, catering for shipbuilding, ship repair and general heavy engineering. The PNS Mehran is the naval station and the premier air–to-air/air–to–ground training naval air station located in the joint vicinity of the Faisal Air Force Base in Karachi, Sindh in Pakistan. The Western Naval Command is a naval military command of the Pakistan Navy mainly scattered across the province of Baluchistan. It is currently headquartered in the Headquarters Commander West at PNS Akram in Gwadar. The command is currently commanded by Commodore Syed Faisal Ali Shah TI(M) who is designated as the Commander West or COMWEST.
PNS Akram is a naval base located in Gwadar, Balochistan, Pakistan. Established in 1987, it serves as the forward operating base for the Pakistan Navy and acts as a military depot for all naval personnel stationed as part of the Western Command. It is namesake in the honor and in memory of Admiral Afzal Rahman Khan, and is the first naval base to be established on the Makran Coast of Balochistan.
