Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta (born 7 May 1953) is the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court and Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law,Hyderabad. He has been the Chief Justice since 21 May 2013. [1]
Sengupta was enrolled as an advocate on 21 April 1981. He practised in the Calcutta High Court in Civil,Constitutional,Criminal matters and Arbitration matters. He was appointed a permanent Judge of the Calcutta High Court in 1997. He used to work as acting Chief Justice at Calcutta High Court. [2]
Jyoti Basu was an Indian Marxist theorist,communist activist,and politician. He was one of the most prominent leaders of Communist movement in India. He served as the 6th and longest serving Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1977 to 2000. He was one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the member of Politburo of the party since its formation in 1964 till 2008. He was also the member of West Bengal Legislative Assembly 11 times. 1993 Kolkata Firing was an incident of firing by Calcutta Police in 1993 on Indian National Congress workers. Sikkim Lokayukta is the Parliamentary Ombudsman for the state of Sikkim (India). It is a high level statutory functionary,created to address grievances of the public against ministers,legislators,administration and public servants in issues related to misuse of power,mal-administration and corruption. It was first formed under the Sikkim Lokayukta and Deputy Lokayukta Act-2012 and approved by the president of India. The passage of Lokpal and Lokayukta's Act,2013 in Parliament had become law from January 16,2014 and requires each state to appoint its Lokayukta within a year. A bench of Lokayukta should consist of judicial and non-judicial members. An Upa-Lokayukta is a deputy to Lokayukta and assists him in his work and acts in-charge Lokayukta in case the position fells vacant before time.
