Kamaal Rashid Khan (often referred to as KRK or Kamaal R Khan) is an Indian film actor, producer and writer. [3] He participated in the reality show, Bigg Boss in 2009. [4]

Career

Cinema

Khan started his career in Bollywood as a producer and actor with the film Deshdrohi in 2008. [5] [6] [7] He also appeared in a small role in Ek Villain.

Bollywood Hindi language film industry

Hindi cinema, often known as Bollywood and formerly as Bombay cinema, is the Indian Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai. The term is a portmanteau of "Bombay" and "Hollywood". The industry is related to Cinema of South India and other Indian film industries, making up Indian Cinema – the world's largest by number of feature films produced.

<i>Deshdrohi</i> 2008 film by Jagdish Sharma

Deshdrohi is a 2008 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Jagdish A. Sharma. It was scripted and produced by Kamaal Rashid Khan who also appeared in the lead role with Manoj Tiwari, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Gracy Singh and Zulfi Syed. A sequel titled Deshdrohi 2 was released on YouTube as a short film. The sequel was based on the conviction of Syed Abdul Karim Tunda.

<i>Ek Villain</i> 2014 Indian romantic thriller film directed by Mohit Suri

Ek Villain is a 2014 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Mohit Suri. The film stars Sidharth Malhotra, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Shraddha Kapoor. It tells the story of a hardened criminal Guru, whose terminally ill wife Aisha is murdered by a sadistic serial killer Rakesh. The film was produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures and ALT Entertainment. The film is an unofficial remake of the 2010 South Korean action thriller film I Saw the Devil. Upon its release on 27 June 2014, the film received positive reviews from critics for its theme, screenplay, direction and performances of Malhotra and Deshmukh. It was a commercial success at the box office with earnings of over 100 crore in India.

Television career

Khan made his television debut in Season 3 of Indian reality TV programme Bigg Boss, [8] the Indian version of Celebrity Big Brother. [9]

Although he was already nominated for eviction for three weeks consecutively, he eventually became the first contestant to be prematurely kicked out from the Big Boss house because of his violent behaviour towards other housemates. Khan verbally abused Rohit Verma and threw a water bottle at him, which hit Shamita Shetty. He also had an altercation with comedian Raju Srivastav. Khan was asked to leave the house that very night. [10]

Shamita Shetty Indian actress

Shamita Shetty is an Indian Bollywood actress and interior designer. She made her debut with the blockbuster Mohabbatein in 2000. Her portrayal of Ishika earned her the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the year. She was a contestant in the reality show, Bigg Boss in 2009. She later participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (2015) and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi in 2019 and became one of the finalists.

Controversy

Khan's Hindi film Deshdrohi was banned in Maharashtra by the state government amid riot concerns. [11] [12] [13]

He has been accused of making derogatory caste-based remarks and defamatory remarks against South Indian actor Dhanush in his review of the latter's movie Raanjhanaa, posted on YouTube. [14] A case under Section 66A of the IT Act has been registered against Kamaal at the Seema Puri Police Station of North-East Delhi. The complaint was lodged by R.L. Kane, secretary of Dr. Bheemrao Ambedkar Vichaar Manch, by sending an email to the Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi. [15] The film fraternity approached the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), demanding a complete ban against Khan. [16]

<i>Raanjhanaa</i> 2013 film by Anand L. Rai

Raanjhanaa is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Aanand L. Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma. The film is produced by Krishika Lulla under the banner Eros International. It stars Dhanush, in his Bollywood debut, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in lead roles. The film was released on 21 June 2013 worldwide, while the dubbed Tamil version titled Ambikapathy was released a week later. The dialogues for the Tamil version were written by John Mahendran.

During Indian General Elections 2014, he tweeted that he will leave India if Narendra Modi becomes prime minister of India. On May 18, 2014, he posted a fabricated screenshot of that tweet replacing his name with that of Shahrukh Khan. [17] This sparked controversy as some media outlets didn't investigate and credited the tweet to Shahrukh Khan. [18]

On the day of release of Kochadaiiyaan on 23 May 2014, Khan made a derogatory remark about the film on Twitter. His post, which read "I will review #Heropanti on coming Thursday but I will not watch Crap film #Kochadaiiyaan", faced heated replies by fans of Rajinikanth. [19]
