Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury (known as Kamal Chowdhury;born 31 December 1957) is a Bengali poet and a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service. [1] he is the former adviser to the prime minister of Bangladesh. He was the Chief Coordinator of the National Implementation Committee for the Celebration of Mujib Borsho,the Birth Centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,the founding father of Bangladesh. [2] He is a former Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. [3]
He is mostly known for his works on literature,especially poetry. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2011 for his contributions to Bengali poetry and Ekushe Podok 2022 for his contributions to Bengali language and literature. [4]
Chowdhury was born on 31 December 1957,in Vijaykara village of Chauddagram Upazila of Comilla District. He is the second among six children of Ahmad Hossain Chowdhury and Begum Tahira Hossain. In 1973,he passed Secondary School Certificate from Gaidyanil High School in Narayanganj District and Higher Secondary School Certificate from Dhaka College in 1975. Then he studied sociology at University of Dhaka and received Bachelor's and master's degree. [5] In 2000,he completed PhD in anthropology at the retirement of government jobs. [2] The subject of his PhD dissertation is 'Matrutulan Rasa tradition of Garo people'.
In 1982,Kamal Chowdhury took up the job as a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service. [6]
After serving jobs in different positions in 2010,he was promoted as Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh. While being additional secretary of the Ministry of Information (Bangladesh),he was appointed as Acting Secretary of the same ministry. Afterwards,he served as Secretary of Information for some time. [6]
From 2010 to 2014 he was the Secretary of Ministry of Education. After that,he served as the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration from March 2014. At this time,he was promoted as the Senior Secretary of the Government. After retiring from work in late 2016,he was appointed as the Principal Secretary of Prime Minister of Bangladesh. [3] He also represented Bangladesh at the UNESCO Executive Board for the term 2014–2017. [6]
On 22 January 2022,Chowdhury was awarded the Ekushey Padak,the second most important award for civilians in Bangladesh. [7]
On 11 January 2024,he was inducted as an advisor of Prime minister Sheikh Hasina,in the rank and status of a cabinet minister. [8]
Chowdhury's younger brother,Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury,was the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence. [9]

The Bangla Academy is the official regulatory body of the Bengali language in Bangladesh. It is an autonomous institution funded by the Government of Bangladesh that fosters the Bengali language,literature and culture,works to develop and implement national language policy and conducts original research in Bengali. Established in 1955,it is located in the Burdwan House in Shahbagh,Dhaka,within the grounds of the University of Dhaka and Suhrawardy Udyan. The Bangla Academy hosts the annual Ekushey Book Fair.
Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah was a Bangladeshi poet noted for his revolutionary and romantic poetry. He is considered one of the leading Bengali poets of the 1970s. He received Munir Chaudhury Memorial Award in 1980 and Ekushey Padak in 2024
Syed Shamsul Haq was a Bangladeshi writer. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1966,Ekushey Padak in 1984 and Independence Day Award in 2000 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contributions to Bangla literature. His notable works include "Payer Awaj Pawa Jai","Nishiddho Loban","Khelaram Khele Ja","Neel Dongshon" and "Mrigoya".
Abdul Gaffar Choudhury was a Bangladeshi-born British writer,journalist,columnist,political analyst and poet. He wrote the lyrics to "Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano",a widely celebrated song commemorating the Bengali Language Movement. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1967,Ekushey Padak in 1983,and Independence Day Award in 2009.
Ekushey Padak is the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh,introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Bengali Language Movement of 1952. The award is given to recognize contributions in a number of fields,including culture,education,and economics. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs administers the award.
Shahnaz Rahmatullah was a Bangladeshi singer. Her notable songs are Prothom Bangladesh Amar Sesh Bangladesh,Ekbar Jete De Na Amar Chotto Sonar Gaye,Je Chilo Drishtir Shimanay and Ek Tara Tui Desher Kotha. She was the recipient of the Ekushey Padak in 1992 and Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the film Chhutir Phande (1990).
Barishal Zilla School,popularly known as BZS,is a public educational institution for boys,located in Barisal,Bangladesh. It was the first high school established in Barisal Division. Founded as Barisal English School on 23 December 1829 by W. N. Garrett,it began with 27 students. In 1853,the school was renamed Barisal Zilla School.
Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal was a Bangladeshi songwriter,poet,essayist,critic and presenter. In his early life,he was a singer on East Bengal radio and television. He was a professor of Bengali literature at the University of Rajshahiin 1966 and became professor at University of Chittagong in 1973,also worked for the government as the Director General of the Bangla Academy from 1986 until his death. He was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 1987. He published only three collections of poetry before he died of a heart attack in 1989.

Jharna Dhara Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi social activist.
Kamal Lohani was a Bangladeshi journalist. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015 by the Government of Bangladesh. He served as the director general of Shilpakala Academy from April 2009 until April 2011.
Amjad Hossain was a Bangladeshi film director,actor,scriptwriter and lyricist. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director twice,for the films Golapi Ekhon Traine (1978) and Bhat De (1984). He also won Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2004 and Ekushey Padak in 1992.
Belal Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi poet. He was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1984,the Mazharul Islam Poetry Award in 2013 and Ekushey Padak in 2014.
S. M. Mohsin was a Bangladeshi stage and television actor. He became an honorary fellow of the Bangla Academy in 2018. In 2020,he was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to acting.

Shahadat Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi journalist and editor of several news magazines. He served as the editor of Weekly Bichitra from 1972 until its publication was ceased in 1997. He then served as the editor of Shaptahik 2000 and Anandadhara.
