Kambriel is an American fashion designer, winner of Gothic Beauty's 2005 Fashion Designer of the Year award. [1]

Her designs were initially released in 1994 under the label "Atrocities", which was changed to the eponymous name in 2001. Kambriel's designs are largely qualified as gothic with an elegant focus and historic feel. Among them are creations inspired by the silhouettes of the Victorian era and the flickering images of the silent screen. Her designs include both men's and women's fashions, along with a series of coordinating accessories. These handmade designs focus heavily on the high-quality fabrics and notions of which they are constructed, with great attention paid to craftsmanship and detail.

Kambriel's custom designs have been seen on a variety of stages. Musicians including Monica Richards and William Faith of Faith and the Muse, The Machine in the Garden, Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls, Mirabilis, Mors Syphilitica, Kara of Reliquary, Mephisto Walz, authors Neil Gaiman and Caitlín R. Kiernan, and the comedian Margaret Cho, have all donned her designs. Kambriel's creations have also appeared on the theatrical stage, notably for the internationally touring "The Temperamental Wobble", an Edward Gorey-inspired production by the Snappy Dance Theater of Cambridge, Massachusetts. [2] Her designs also appear on the silver screen in films such as "The Corridor", inspired by the work of H.P. Lovecraft, in which her costumes are again worn by Monica Richards of Faith and the Muse. [3]

Kambriel's works have also been featured internationally in print. In magazines, including America's Gothic Beauty , Dark Realms , Newgrave , Malevola , Tear, The Mercyground , Sentimentalist Magazine , Tattoo Savage , and Sheltered Life , Italy's Ascension Magazine , England's Crimson , Germany's Gothic Magazine and Canada's Comatose Rose and Amongst the Ruins . She has also been featured in the books Hex Files: The Goth Bible (1997) and 21st Century Goth (2002) both by British author and music journalist Mick Mercer.

Kambriel designs live

Since 1995, Kambriel's works have also been showcased at live events across the United States, including a variety of theatrical fashion show vignettes at the annual gothic festival Convergence. These included her tribute collection for The Pale Court, which incorporated previously unfinished pieces of fellow designer Laura Purdy who died in 2005 due to Hodgkin's Lymphoma. [4] In 2007, Kambriel's work was shown at an elegant Halloween-themed benefit for the Animal Rescue League in Boston, Massachusetts at their first ever "Moonlight Ball", featuring the imagery of Edward Gorey. Kambriel also spearheaded the independent group fashion show The Phoenix Parade in 2007 in Portland, Oregon.

Author Neil Gaiman wore a custom made Kambriel jacket and waistcoat on the Oscars red carpet for the 2010 Academy Awards.

Kambriel at the Museum at FIT

Kambriel's designs were included at the exhibition "Gothic: Dark Glamour", hosted by The Museum at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. [5] Her work and an interview are also included in the coordinating book, Gothic: Dark Glamour , by the museum's curator, Dr. Valerie Steele. This exhibit will also feature other designers' works inspired by the aesthetic of the gothic scene, including those of Givenchy, Christian Lacroix, John Galliano for Galliano, Olivier Theyskens, Alexander McQueen, Rick Owens, Shaun Leane, Simon Costin, Simon Thorogood, Shelley Fox, Thierry Mugler, Hussein Chalayan, Valentino, Yves St. Laurent, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garçons, Rodarte, Gattinoni Couture, Boudicca, and Ann Demeulemeester. Mana is a Japanese musician, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer, best known as guitarist of the visual kei rock band Malice Mizer from their formation in 1992 until their indefinite hiatus in 2001. A year later, Mana formed the gothic metal band Moi dix Mois as his solo project.

Faith and the Muse

Faith and the Muse is an American gothic rock/dark wave band composed of two musicians, Monica Richards and William Faith. Their music encompasses many genres, from folk-style songs to darker compositions, drawing on many sources and influences, notably Dead Can Dance. Richards is the primary singer, although Faith sings one or two tracks on each album. Their influences include dark alternative, gothic rock, Celtic, and other folk influences. Welsh and Irish mythology have often served as inspiration to many of the band's songs.

Givenchy is a French luxury fashion and perfume house. It hosts the brand of haute couture clothing, accessories and Parfums Givenchy, perfumes and cosmetics. The Toronto goth scene, the cultural locus of the goth subculture in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the associated music and fashion scene, has distinct origins from goth scenes of other goth subcultural centres, such as the UK or Germany. Originally known as the "Batcavers", the term "goth" appeared only after 1988, when it was applied to the pre-existent subculture. Distinctive features included internationally recognized gothic and vampiric fashion store 'Siren', a goth-industrial bar named 'Sanctuary: The Vampire Sex Bar', and Forever Knight, a television series about an 800-year-old vampire living in Toronto. Wednesday Mourning

Wednesday Mourning works primarily in the fields of acting and alternative modeling. She specializes in the Goth subculture and has been influential in goth fashion, as well as being the celebrity spokesmodel for Atelier Gothique and appearing as a model for the band My Chemical Romance's CD Welcome To The Black Parade. She was awarded 2010 Goth Day Model of the year and LA Weekly’s Goth Girl of the Week, and since 2012, Mourning has been a co-star on Oddities: San Francisco, a Science Channel program. Mourning is also curator of an esoteric bookstore, Orphic Vellum Books, the only one of its kind in the U.S. She has appeared in several publications including Gothic Beauty and Elle Magazine and is a writing contributor for Celtic Family Magazine.

Heidi Weisel was an American fashion designer. She was the founder and head of design for Heidi Weisel, a New York City-based women's luxury brand. Weisel's signature was creating modern, timeless evening wear with the simplicity and ease of sportswear. She was known for her unexpected mix of fabrics, often incorporating knitted cashmere, silk chiffon, silk satin, lace, tulle, and leather. A Heidi Weisel chiffon and lace design is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Weisel was a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
