Kamilah binti Haji Mohd Hanifah is a Bruneian diplomat who became the ambassador to Japan since 2017,and the former consul general in Hong Kong. [1]
Kamilah was a Senior Special Duties Officer in the Department of Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) earlier in her career. [2] [3] She would later be appointed as the consul general in Hong Kong. [4] Song Zhe met with her on 5 November 2012,to discuss their respective perspectives on bilateral ties as well as Hong Kong and Brunei's interchange and collaboration. [5]
On 28 February 2017,Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah consented to meet Kamilah and the other recently nominated ambassadors from Brunei. Earlier on the 15th,she got the Letter of Appointment from Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. [6] [7] On 10 May,she presented her credentials to Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. [8] Motohiko Kato and her signed diplomatic notes on 24 August 2018,in Tokyo,to amend the agreement's attachment regarding air services in order to encourage the liberalization of air travel between the two nations. [9]
During the symposium's closing remarks on 1 March 2018,Kamilah,the chair of the ASEAN-Japan Center,mentioned that the ASEAN member states have been collaborating closely with one another as well as with allies like Japan to create a peaceful,prosperous,and inclusive region. She also said that as ASEAN moves toward open regionalism and confronts the rising tendency of protectionism in the ensuing ten years. [10]
Brunei maintains diplomatic relations with 170 out of 193 countries,joined ASEAN on 7 January 1984,one week after resuming full independence,and gives its ASEAN membership the highest priority in its foreign relations. Brunei joined the United Nations in September 1984. It is also a member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and the Commonwealth of Nations. Brunei hosted the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November 2000. In 2005 it attended the inaugural East Asia Summit.
Mohamed Bolkiah ibni Omar Ali Saifuddien III is a member of the royal family of Brunei. He is the second son of Omar Ali Saifuddien III,the 28th Sultan of Brunei,and Raja Isteri (Queen) Pengiran Anak Damit. After Brunei's independence in 1984,he became the country’s first foreign minister,serving from 1 January 1984 until 22 October 2015,alongside the second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade,Lim Jock Seng.
