Karn City Area School District is a public school district in Butler County, Clarion County, and Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. The district serves the boroughs of Chicora, Fairview, Karns City, Petrolia, and Bruin, and the townships of Parker, Fairview, and Donegal in Butler County, the townships of Perry, Sugarcreek, and Bradys Bend in Armstrong County, and the borough of East Brady and Brady Township in Clarion County. There are two K–6 elementary schools- Chicora and Sugarcreek Elementaries, as well as Karns City Area Junior/Senior High School. The district encompasses approximately 125 square miles (320 km2). According to 2000 federal census data, it serves a resident population of 10,720.

Pennsylvania Route 68 is a 90.036-mile-long (144.899 km) east–west state highway located in western Pennsylvania in the United States. The western terminus of the route is at the Ohio state line west of Glasgow, where PA 68 continues into Ohio as State Route 39. The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 322 in Clarion. The route runs southwest-northeast across Beaver, Butler, Armstrong, and Clarion counties. PA 68 follows the Ohio River between the Ohio border and Beaver, where it crosses the Beaver River into Rochester and heads northeast away from the Ohio River. The route runs through rural areas to Butler County, where it intersects Interstate 79 (I-79) in Zelienople before serving Evans City and Butler. PA 68 passes through a section of Armstrong County before crossing the Allegheny River into Clarion County. Here, the route passes through Rimersburg and Sligo before having an interchange with I-80 and continuing to its terminus in Clarion.

Karns City High School is located in Karns City, Pennsylvania. It is part of the Karns City Area School District. The school serves students residing in the Butler County, Clarion County, and Armstrong counties. The boroughs of Chicora, East Brady, Fairview, Karns City, Petrolia, and Bruin, as well as the townships of Parker, Fairview, Donegal, Perry, Sugarcreek, Brady's Bend, and Brady are within Karns City School District boundaries. The principals are Dr. Michael Stimac and Mrs. Brenda Knoll. The school colors are purple and gold. The school mascot is the Gremlin.

Pennsylvania State Senate District 21 includes parts of Butler County and Erie County and all of Clarion County, Forest County, Venango County, and Warren County. It is currently represented by Republican Scott Hutchinson.
