A power station, also referred to as a power plant and sometimes generating station or generating plant, is an industrial facility for the generation of electric power. Power stations are generally connected to an electrical grid.
India is the world's third largest producer and third largest consumer of electricity. The national electric grid in India has an installed capacity of 375.32 GW as of 31 December 2020. Renewable power plants, which also include large hydroelectric plants, constitute 36.17% of India's total installed capacity. During the fiscal year (FY) 2019, the gross electricity generated by utilities in India was 1,383.5 TWh and the total electricity generation in the country was 1,598 TWh. The gross electricity consumption in FY2019 was 1,208 kWh per capita. In FY2015, electric energy consumption in agriculture was recorded as being the highest (17.89%) worldwide. The per capita electricity consumption is low compared to most other countries despite India having a low electricity tariff.

The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation or CESC is the Kolkata-based flagship company of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, born from the erstwhile RPG Group, under the chairmanship of businessman Sanjiv Goenka. It is an Indian electricity generation and the sole distribution company serving 567 square kilometres (219 sq mi) of area administered by the Kolkata municipal corporation, in the city of Kolkata, as well as parts of Howrah, Hooghly, 24 Parganas (North) and 24 Parganas (South) districts in the state of West Bengal. It serves 3.0 million consumers approximately, which includes domestic, industrial and commercial users.
Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., abbreviated as Chuden in Japanese, is a Japanese electric utilities provider for the middle Chūbu region of the Honshu island of Japan. It provides electricity at 60 Hz, though an area of Nagano Prefecture uses 50 Hz. Chubu Electric Power ranks third among Japan's largest electric utilities in terms of power generation capacity, electric energy sold, and annual revenue. It is also one of Nagoya's "four influential companies" along with Meitetsu, Matsuzakaya, and Toho Gas. Recently, the company has also expanded into the business of optical fibers. On January 1, 2006, a new company, Chubu Telecommunications, was formed.
National Capital Power Station (NCPS) Or NTPC Dadri, is the power project to meet the power demand of National Capital Region (India). It has a huge coal-fired thermal power plant and a gas-fired plant and has a small township located in Uttar Pradesh, India for its employees. It is located in Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh about 25 km from Ghaziabad and about 9 km from Dadri. It is nearly 48 km from New Delhi towards Hapur. The township has an area of about 500 acres over all. NTPC Dadri is a branch of National Thermal Power Corporation, which is a public sector now. It is about 20 km from Ghaziabad via Badalpur, Mahawar, Bamabawar, and Akilpur Jagir.
The Mahanirmiti or Mahagenco formerly known as MSEB is the major power generating company in the state of Maharashtra, Western India and a wholly owned subsidiary of Maharashtra State Electricity Board. With a total generation of 14400 MW, it is the second largest power producing company in India. The power generated by Mahagenco is supplied to the State of Maharashtra. It was a part of Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) until 6 June 2005.
Glanford Brigg Power Station is a gas-fired power station in North Lincolnshire, England. It is capable of firing diesel as a substitute of natural gas. It is situated on the River Ancholme, beside the Sheffield to Cleethorpes via Brigg Line, outside the town of Brigg, with its name coming from the former name for the town. It has a generating capacity of 240 megawatts (MW).

Ramgarh Gas Thermal Power Station commonly abbreviated as RGTPP is a gas-based thermal power plant located at Ramgarh in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. This power station is Rajasthan's(RAJSTHAN'S FIRST GAS THERMAL POWER PLANT IS ANTA BARA NTPC GAS POWER PLANT WHICH COMMISSION IN JANUARY 1989 FIRST UNIT WHILE RAMGARGH PLANT'S FIRST UNIT COMMISSION ON JAN 1996) ,first gas based power station. The power plant is operated by the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, a PSU company run by Govt. of Rajasthan. RGTPP is located 60 kilometres (37 mi) north-west from Jaisalmer district headquarters. Power station houses the GAIL terminal for the supply of gas fuel. ONGC, OIL and Focus Energy Ltd. are among the gas suppliers. It has a staff of more than 200 engineers and technical workers.
