Kashim Ibrahim-Imam was born 8 May 1962, he is a Nigerian politician who was twice the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Governor of Borno State in 2003 and 2007, losing both times to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate Ali Modu Sheriff.

Early career

Ibrahim-Imam was born into a political family. His father, Ibrahim Imam was the motivating force of the progressive Borno Youth Movement. [1] He earned degrees in Political Science and International Economic Relations from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the University of Maiduguri. He then entered the banking industry. He was given the title of "Mutawalli Borno", a senior councillor to the Shehu (traditional ruler) of Borno. [2] He was a childhood friend and business partner of his political opponent in Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff. [3]

During the short-lived Nigerian Third Republic Ibrahim-Imam was Borno State chairman of the Social Democratic Party(SDP). He was removed from this position by Maina Maaji Lawan, the Borno State Governor at that time. [4] Ibrahim-Imam was a member of Hope 93, the political group at the forefront of the MKO Abiola campaign in the 1993 elections. [5]

Fourth Republic

Ibrahim-Imam was appointed Presidential Liaison Officer to the Senate at the start of President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration. [2]

In the February 2003 PDP primaries for Borno State Governorship candidate, Ibrahim-Imam was said to be competing in part to prevent Lawan becoming governor again. [4] He easily beat four other contestants to represent the PDP in the gubernatorial elections, gaining 177 of the 185 votes cast. [6] In the April elections, Ali Modu Sheriff of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) gained 581,880 votes, Kashim came second with 341,537 votes for the PDP and the incumbent Governor Mala Kachalla, who had moved from the ANPP to compete on the Alliance for Democracy (AD) ticket, gained 336,165 votes. Kashim said the election was not fair or free. [7] He competed again in the 2007 elections and lost to Sheriff again. [8]

In April 2008 Ibrahim-Imam claimed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had ordered the demolition of his house because of his loyalty to former president Obasanjo. Atiku denied the charge. [9]

Ali Modu Sheriff is a Nigerian politician. He is Borno State's first governor to serve two consecutive terms (2003–2011). Though Sheriff had held two elected offices as a member of All Nigeria People's Party, he would later join the All Progressives Congress becoming a founding member of that party. In 2014, Sheriff switched affiliation to the People's Democratic Party. He acted as the National Working Committee chair from 16 February 2016 until the National Convention, when he was removed and replaced by Ahmed Makarfi. On 26 April 2018 he defected back to All Progressives Congress

Mala Kachalla was governor of Borno State in Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003.

Atiku Abubakar Nigerian politician

Atiku Abubakar is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as the Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007 during the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo. He ran as Governor of Adamawa State in 1990, 1997 and later, in 1998, being elected before becoming Olusegun Obasanjo's running mate during the 1999 presidential election and re-elected in 2003.

Sule Lamido was born on served as Foreign Affairs Minister of Nigeria from 1999 to 2003. He was elected governor of Jigawa State in April 2007. He is a member of the former ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He ran successfully for reelection on 26 April 2011. In 2015 he and his sons were put on trial for embezzling state fund by the EFCC.

2007 Nigerian general election

General elections were held in Nigeria on 21 April 2007 to elect the President and National Assembly. Governorship and State Assembly elections had been held on 14 April.

It was one of the five state-sanctioned political parties allowed by the government of General Sani Abacha to participate in state assembly elections held in December 1997, in which it won many elections, and in parliamentary elections held in April 1998. Considered by its opposition to be the army’s proxy, it dominated the Abacha transition programme.

Mohammed Daggash

Mohammed Sanusi Daggash is a Nigerian architect and economist who was elected as a member of the Federal House of Representatives in 1999, and became Senator for Borno North in 2003. President Umaru Yar'Adua appointed him Minister for the National Planning Commission of Nigeria in July 2007, and relieved him of his post in October 2008. He was again reappointed as Minister for Works in April 2010 by Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.

Lawali Shuaibu Nigerian politician

Lawali Shuaibu was elected Senator for the Zamfara North Senatorial District of Zamfara State, Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, running on the All People's Party (APP) platform. He took office on 29 May 1999. He was re-elected on the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) platform in 2003 to a second term of four years.

Khalifa Ahmed Zanna was a Nigerian politician who was elected Senator for Borno Central, in Borno State, on the 9 April, 2011 national elections at the age of 55. He was elected under the People Democratic Party (Nigeria) and was re-elected 2015 and died on 16 may, 2015 few days to inauguration.

Kashim Ibrahim Shettima is a current Senator and the former governor of Borno state.

Mohammed Ali Ndume born is a Nigerian politician who was a member of the Federal House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011. He was elected to the Senate for Borno South, Borno State, Nigeria in April 2011 running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) ticket. He is currently a member of All Progressive Congress (APC).

2015 Borno State gubernatorial election 2015 gubernatorial election in Borno State, Nigeria

The 2015 Borno State gubernatorial election occurred on April 11, 2015. Incumbent Governor APC's Kashim Shettima won election for a second term, defeating PDP's Gambo Lawan and several minor party candidates. Shettima received 94.92% of the vote.

The 2011 Kebbi State gubernatorial election occurred on April 26, 2011. PDP candidate Usman Saidu Nasamu Dakingari won the election, defeating CPC Abubakar Abubakar and 13 other candidates.

The 2007 Borno State gubernatorial election was the 6th gubernatorial election of Borno State. Held on April 14, 2011, the All Nigeria Peoples Party nominee Ali Modu Sheriff won the election, defeating Kashim Ibrahim-Imam of the People's Democratic Party.

The 2019 Nigerian Senate elections in Bornu State were held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Bornu State. Governor Shettima Kashim representing Bornu Central, Kyari Abubakar Shaib representing Bornu North, and Ndume Mohammed Ali representing Bornu South all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.
