Katawa is a populated township in Northern Region, Malawi. [1] [2] [3] [4] It is located in the Northern Region of the Mzuzu. Its neighbourhood include Luwinga, Mchengautuba, Chiwavi and Chibanja. [1] [5] It is home to the Malawi's gospel singers, the Katawa Singers. [6] [7] [8]

Loti Dzonzi is Malawi's former Inspector General of Police in Malawi. He was born in Ntchisi District Malawi. He was the former Police Commissioner prior to this appointment. He has been in the police force since 1987. His appointment was the first replacement under President Joyce Banda administration, therefore succeeding Peter Mukhito. He has vowed to stamp out corruption within the Malawi Police Service. The deputies appointed a few days later serving under him are deputies Finely Binali and Doreen Kapanga.

Until her current appointment Vera served as the Minister of Labour since 26 January 2022 and as deputy Minister of Labour following the 2020 Malawian presidential election. In 2021 Vera Kamtukule assumed her role as Chair of the SADC Employment and Labour Sector.

Inkosi Ya Makhosi M'mbelwa V is the reigning King of the Ngoni and Tumbuka people in Malawi, Zambia and Tanzania. M'mbelwa V is the fifth surviving son of the great-grandfather King Zwangendaba Jele and Queen Munene of the Nzima clan of present-day Eswatini. M'mbelwa V inherited his father's kingdom when he passed away in February 2013 at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Malawi's commercial city, Blantyre, where he was diagnosed with diabetes attack and hypertension. During his death, he was 56 years old. M'mbelwa V's headquarters is in Edingeni, Mzimba. He is married to Inkosikazi M'mbelwa V. During COVID-19 in 2020, he instructed the government to avoid mass gatherings of people.

Katawa C.C.A.P. Singers is Malawian choir group that emerged in early 1980s and rose to fame in the 1990s. It got its name from a township in Mzuzu and the group started during a fundraising initiative that was intended to construct a Presbyterian church in Katawa area in 1990. The initiative was organised by Allen Mtambo and Reverend Peter Mushanga, as well as Pickford Jungu. They started producing electronic gospel music when they received a Yamaha keyboard from donors that were visiting the church then. The group won several awards, including the Malawi Broadcasting Station (MBC) award.

The Great Angels Choir is a CCAP gospel musical group from Lilongwe, Malawi. In 2016, the choir shared a stage with American singer, Don Moen. In 2023, it was rumoured that the choir was spliting to which it publicly denied. In September 2023, the choir collaborated with South Africa's Rebecca Malope in performance at the Blessings Gospel Concert at BICC in Lilongwe and other artists. In 2017, the choir hired Sipho Makhabane to spice their website.

Alleluya Band is an oldest Malawian music group founded by Paul Banda his brother Lucius Banda from Balaka. The band started and rose to fame in 1970s. The band's current leader is Coss Chiwalo. In 2021, the group released their 13th album in May. In 2018 and 2019, the band visited Rome and met with Pope Francis for Panama for World Youth Day. In 2020, after the band embarked from Italy, they were quarantined due to Covid-19. The band has also shared stage with different artists such as Skeffa Chimoto and Dan Lufani.

Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union Limited is the only coffee company that produces international standard coffee in Malawi that operates in Northern Region of Malawi. It is located in Luwinga townand the company was established on 1 April 2007. Before it became the union, it operated as Smallholder Coffee Authority from 1979 to 1999 and as Smallholder Coffee Farmers Trust from 1999 to 2007 when coffee sector was liberalized in Malawi. In 2006 under a large European-Union influence project, the cooperative expanded and built many of its 61 CPUs and a centralized dry mill in Mzuzu town for hulling, processing, and export.

National Association for People living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi(NAPHAM) is a Malawian non-governmental member-based organization founded in 1993 aiming at providing a forum for people living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi to share their experiences and find solutions to solve them. The organization was found with an intention to minimised discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS as at the time people were stigmatized and treated as outcasts when diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.

Dan Lufani, best known as Dan Lu, is a Malawian Afro-pop singer and songwriter. In 2011, he was awarded as best Afro pop artist of the year in Malawi Music Awards. In 2016, he was nominated in best R&B/Afro-pop Act along with other artists such as Theo Thomson and Kell Kay.
