Kate Ceberano and Her Septet is a live album recorded by Australian singer Kate Ceberano, released in March 1987. [1] [2] Ceberano's first solo release, the album peaked at number 29 in Australia. [3]
Whilst still performing with the band I'm Talking in early 1986, Ceberano was asked by events promoter Clifford Hocking to step in and replace a cancelled jazz performer at the Perth International Jazz Festival with a week's notice. Ceberano quickly established a septet and the performance was an unexpected success. Immediately after, Hocking asked Ceberano to perform again at the ANZ Pavilion State Theatre in Melbourne between 13–14 June 1986. According to her 2014 autobiography, Ceberano said the idea "frightened the life out [of her]" as she thought no one would come. [4] However, the performance was a success and the live recording was released as her debut album in 1987. [5]
There was a TV special released, and although not officially released, various clips are available to view on YouTube.

Catherine Yvette Ceberano is an Australian singer and actress who performs in the soul, jazz, and pop genres, as well as in film and musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar. Her single "Bedroom Eyes" received a platinum sales certification in 1989. In 2019, she was one of the contestants in season one of The Masked Singer Australia as ‘The Lion’, where she was unmasked in episode seven, placing sixth.
I'm Talking are an Australian funk-pop rock band, which featured vocalists Kate Ceberano and Zan Abeyratne. They formed in 1983 in Melbourne and provided top ten hit singles "Trust Me", "Do You Wanna Be?" and "Holy Word" and a top fifteen album, Bear Witness, before disbanding in 1987. The group reunited in October 2018, and went on a 2019 tour as well as a series of small venue shows.
Suzanne Marguerite Abeyratne, who performs as Zan or Xan, is an Australian-based singer born in London. Abeyratne was a co-lead vocalist of I'm Talking (1984–87), alongside Kate Ceberano. She provided lead vocals on their single, "Holy Word", which peaked at No. 9 in Australia, and No. 21 in New Zealand. Along with her identical twin sister Sherine, Abeyratne has provided backing vocals for Models, INXS, and U2, and has toured the world with other bands.
