Katherine Lanpher (born 1959) [1] [2] is an American writer, journalist, broadcaster, and podcaster, who came to national prominence as the co-host of the Air America Radio program The Al Franken Show in 2004 and 2005.

Lanpher started her career with internships at the Muskegon Chronicle , the Detroit Free Press and the Chicago Sun-Times .[ citation needed ] Lanpher worked for the St. Paul Pioneer Press for sixteen years (the last six as a columnist), [3] then left to host Minnesota Public Radio's Midmorning program from August 1998 until January 20, 2004. Lanpher moved to New York City in 2004 to co-host the Air America Radio flagship program The O'Franken Factor [7] She left the show on October 7, 2005 to write a memoir concerning her move to New York City, where she currently resides.[ citation needed ] Her memoir is entitled Leap Days: Chronicles of a Midlife Move ( ISBN   0821258303) and was published on October 10, 2006 by Springboard Press.

On January 4, 2007, More magazine announced that Lanpher would host an hour-long weekly broadcast on XM Satellite Radio called More Time; it debuted January 16 on XM's "Take Five" channel. The announcement said the broadcast would "celebrate the lifestyles of 40+ women with coverage of real women, health, fashion, beauty, travel, entertainment and more. [8] The show ended on or before[ specify ] XM's merger with Sirius Radio.

Since July 2008, Lanpher has been a contributor to WNYC's The Takeaway. [9]

Podcasts

Since 2006, [10] Lanpher has hosted the monthly "Upstairs at the Square" for Barnes & Noble, currently available as a podcast [11] and since March 2008 as part of the Barnes & Noble Studio. [12] In 2009, Lanpher became the host of TIME Financial Toolkit, a Time magazine podcast in which she talks to "TIME business and economics reporters to sort through the headlines, forecasts, news and numbers." [13]

Education

Lanpher graduated with a degree in journalism from Northwestern University and with a master's degree in American Cultural History from the University of Chicago. [3]

Air America was an American radio network specializing in progressive talk radio. It was on the air from March 2004 to January 2010.

The Al Franken Show was the flagship talk show of the former talk radio network, Air America Radio. Hosted by Al Franken, it featured commentary and interviews arguing for liberal positions on the issues of the day, and comically poking fun at the George W. Bush Administration. The show began as The O'Franken Factor on March 31, 2004. Between January 3, 2006, and February 14, 2007, the show was recorded and broadcast from the 28th floor of the historic Foshay Tower in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prior to that date it was based in New York City. The final show was broadcast on February 14, 2007, the day Franken announced his candidacy for the United States Senate in 2008.

Leonard Lopate American radio host (born 1940)

Leonard Lopate is an American radio personality. He is the host of the radio talk show Leonard Lopate at Large, broadcast on WBAI, and the former host of the public radio talk show The Leonard Lopate Show, broadcast on WNYC. He first broadcast on WKCR, the college radio station of Columbia University, and then later on WBAI, before moving to WNYC.

Bruce Dale Sommers, known by his nickname "The Truckin' Bozo", was an American radio personality, best known for his long-running country music show geared toward truck drivers. Sommers hosted the overnight show from Cincinnati, Ohio-based clear-channel station WLW from 1984 to 2004, and it was carried by a small network of similarly high-powered stations across the United States. Sommers discontinued playing music on his nightly show, focusing on general and truck news, and talk from his listeners. Sommers announced his retirement from radio in 2004, but XM Satellite Radio was successful in getting him to do an afternoon truck show, which aired on Sirius Satellite Radio and XM from 4 PM to 7 PM Eastern time. Sommers retired from XM/Sirius on June 21, 2012, only to return for the last time on July 16, 2012.

WNYC-FM Public radio station in New York City

WNYC-FM (93.9 MHz) is a non-profit, non-commercial, public radio station licensed to New York City. It is owned by New York Public Radio along with WNYC (AM), Newark, New Jersey-licensed classical music outlet WQXR-FM (105.9 MHz), New Jersey Public Radio, and the Jerome L. Greene Performance Space. <i>The Takeaway</i> Morning radio news program

The Takeaway is a morning radio news program co-created and co-produced by Public Radio International and WNYC. Its editorial partner is WGBH-FM; at launch the BBC World Service and The New York Times were also editorial partners. In addition to co-producing the program, PRX also distributes the program nationwide to its affiliated stations. The program debuted on WNYC in New York, WGBH in Boston, and WEAA in Baltimore. To date, the program has approximately 280 carrying stations across the country, including markets in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, Portland, Boston, and more. The current host is Tanzina Vega.
