Kawasi Lakhma is a former cabinet minister of Chattisgarh. He was also elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) five times consecutively from Konta. He was one of the survivors of 2013 Naxal attack in Darbha valley.
Kawasi Lakhma is from Nagaras village,Sonakukanur post,Konta Tehsil,Sukma district,Chhattisgarh and his place is a part of Bastar region.
Kawasi Lakhma,a tribal leader, [2] was elected as MLA (elected in 2008) from Konta constituency of Chhattisgarh state [3] and he was earlier elected in 2003 with a huge margin (securing 51.54% of votes polled). [4] His constituency is a Naxal hit area and he is capable of interacting with Naxals in their native language. [5] During 2013 Naxal attack in Darbha Valley,more than 30 people were killed and two other leaders travelling in the same car were taken away and killed by Naxals,sparing Lakhma. [6] As an opposition party MLA,he has raised concerns about the quality of developmental activities undertaken in the Naxal hit Sukma district. [7] He is cabinet minister of Commercial Tax (Excise),Commerce and Industry in government of Chhattisgarh.
His name was widely discussed as some of his party men expressed doubt about his integrity and questioned his role in the Naxal attack, [8] when other Congress leaders were shot dead in the attack,Kawasi Lakhma was spared and caused doubts. [9]
Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded a narco test on Kawasi Lakhma, [10] so that the details of dialogue he exchanged with Naxals during the deadly attack and any possible conspiracy,can be found out. [11] He won the election and became the minister of the state.

Mahendra Karma was an Indian political leader belonging to Indian National Congress from Chhattisgarh. He was the leader of the opposition in the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha from 2004 to 2008. In 2005,he played a top role in organising the Salwa Judum movement against Naxalites,a Maoist group in Chhattisgarh. He was a Minister of Industry and Commerce in the Ajit Jogi cabinet since the state formation in 2000 to 2004. He was assassinated by Naxalites on 25 May 2013 in the 2013 Naxal attack in Darbha valley while returning from a Parivartan Rally meeting organised by his party in Sukma.

Vidya Charan Shukla,a senior Congress leader,succumbed to his injuries on 11 June 2013.

Elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held on 28 November 2018 to elect members of the 230 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. The election was a direct political battle between the BJP and the INC. One of the main centers of attraction was the contest between Congress heavy-weight Arun Yadav and the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. While the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government had tried to win for consecutive 4th term,the INC fought for winning the state after 2003. The Jhiram Valley Attack was a naxal attack which killed top Congress leaders of Chhattisgarh in 2013 during a political rally in Darbha. The new SIT has been formed by the newly elected Congress government of Chhattisgarh to probe into it He has also served as the DIG of Special Protection Group which looks after the security of the Prime Minister of India. During his tenure as IG in Bilaspur,Sinha walked on coal barefoot to convince the locals that there is no magic in walking on coal. This was done to strengthen the human rights of women who were being harassed or boycotted after being labelled as witches.

The 2021 Sukma-Bijapur attack was an ambush carried out by the Naxalite-Maoist militants from the Communist Party of India (Maoist) against Indian security forces on 3 April 2021 at Sukma-Bijapur border near Jonaguda village which falls under Jagargunda police station area in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh,the ensuing gunfight lead to the killing of 22 security personnel as well as 20 Naxalites. The death toll was the worst for Indian security forces fighting the Naxalites since 2017.
Legislative Assembly elections were held in Chhattisgarh in two phases on 7 November and 17 November 2023 to elect all 90 members of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. The votes were counted and the results declared on 3 December 2023.
