Saint Lucia is a constitutional monarchy and an island country of the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean. The island was previously called Iouanalao and later Hewanorra,names given by the native Arawaks and Caribs (respectively),two Amerindian peoples. Part of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles,it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent,northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It covers a land area of 617 km2 with an estimated population of over 180,000 people as of 2018. The nation's capital and largest city is Castries.
The music of Saint Lucia is home to many vibrant oral and folk traditions and is based on elements derived from the music of Africa,especially rhythmically,and Western Europe,dances like the quadrille,polka and waltz. The banjo and cuatro are iconic Lucian folk instruments,especially a four-stringed banjo called the bwa poye. Celebratory songs called jwé show lyricism,and rhythmic complexity. The most important of the Afro-Lucian Creole folk dances is the kwadril. Music is an integral part of Lucian folk holidays and celebrations,as well as the good-natured rivalry between the La Rose and La Marguerite societies. There is little Western classical music on Saint Lucia,and the country's popular music industry is only nascent. There are few recording opportunities,though live music and radio remain a vital part of Lucian culture. Popular music from abroad,especially Trinidadian styles like calypso and soca,is widespread.
The Saint Lucia national football team represents Saint Lucia in men's international football and is administered by the Saint Lucia Football Association,the governing body for football in Saint Lucia. They have been a member of FIFA since 1988 and a member of CONCACAF since 1986. The team has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup or the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Johnson Charles is a St Lucian international cricketer who plays for the West Indies. As a wicket-keeper-batsman,Charles started his ODI career against Australia in March 2012. His first T20I came against England in September 2011,and he became just the second cricketer from the island of St Lucia to play for the West Indies. Johnson was included in the West Indies' 15-man squad for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 held in September and October that year,where the team won the tournament. Allen Michael Chastanet is a Saint Lucian businessman and politician who served as Prime Minister of Saint Lucia from 2016 to 2021. The St Lucia national cricket team represents the country of Saint Lucia in cricket. The team is a member of the Windward Islands Cricket Board of Control,which itself is a member association of the West Indies Cricket Board. Players from St Lucia generally represent the Windward Islands cricket team at domestic level and the West Indies at international level. St Lucia has however played as a separate entity in matches which held Twenty20 status,but has not appeared in first-class or List A cricket. Joshua Solomon-Davies is a Saint Lucian semi-professional footballer who plays as a right back for the Saint Lucia national football team. In August 2023 he joined Atherton Collieries of the Northern Premier League. Previously he played for Marine in the Northern Premier League,winning promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division at the end of the 2021/22 season following victory in the play off final.
The COVID-19 pandemic in Saint Lucia was a part of the ongoing global viral pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19),which was confirmed to have reached Saint Lucia on 13 March 2020. As of 2 September 2022,there are a total of 28,894 confirmed cases,of which 28,369 have recovered and 391 deaths have occurred.
Kenson Casimir is a Saint Lucian politician,former sports broadcaster and journalist. Casimir serves as Minister for Youth Development and Sports. He was the endorsed Saint Lucia Labour Party candidate for the constituency of Gros Islet. Casimir claimed his spot in the dubbed landslide victory for the Saint Lucia Labour Party in the 2021 Saint Lucian General Election. Casimir represents the Gros Islet constituency in the House of Assembly.
Saint Lucia competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham,England from 28 July –8 August 2022. It was the team's 11th appearance at the Games.
