Geelong is a port city located on Corio Bay and the Barwon River,in the state of Victoria,Australia. The traditional owners of the land on which Geelong sits are the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin nation.
The City of Wyndham is a local government area in Victoria,Australia in the outer south-western suburbs of Melbourne,within the Melbourne Metropolitan Area,between Melbourne and the regional city of Geelong. It has an area of 542 square kilometres (209 sq mi). The city had a population of 255,322 in June 2018. For the year to 2018 the City of Wyndham increased its population by 14,251,the largest number of any LGA in Victoria,as well being the second most populous and the second fastest growing at a rate of 5.9 per cent.

Geoff Ablett is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1970s and 1980s. Ablett spent the majority of his career with Hawthorn,playing 202 games on the wing. Ablett finished with short stints at Richmond and St Kilda. His younger brother Gary Ablett Sr is a Hall of Fame inductee. A third brother,Kevin,also played for Hawthorn,Richmond and Geelong. Local councils have the same administrative functions and similar political structures,regardless of their classification. They will typically have an elected council and usually a mayor or shire president responsible for chairing meetings of the council. The City of Melbourne has a Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor,who are directly elected,and in the other councils a mayor and deputy mayor are elected by fellow Councillors from among their own number. Since 2017,the mayor of the City of Greater Geelong has not been directly elected. In addition,there are also 10 unincorporated areas,consisting of small islands or ski resorts,which are administered either by the state government or management boards.

A by-election for the City of Greater Geelong mayor occurred on 24 November 2013. This by-election was triggered by the resignation of Geelong's first directly elected mayor Keith Fagg and saw Darryn Lyons of the Liberal Party become Geelong's second directly elected mayor with a first-preference vote of 29.79%. Lyons' nearest rival,Stephanie Asher,achieved a primary vote of 14.43%.
Elections were held for the City of Greater Geelong council in Australia on 27 October 2012. In addition to electing a new 12 member council,Geelong also directly elected its first Mayor. Independent candidate Keith Fagg won the election convincingly,winning 43.28% of the primary vote. Then-mayor Labor aligned John Mitchell won 13.88% of the vote.
