Kempaiah IPS is a police officer from Karnataka, India. The high point of his career was successfully hunting down Rajiv Gandhi's assassins in Bengaluru.

He led the Karnataka police team that tracked Sivarasan, prime accused in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case, to his hideout in Konanakunte outside Bengaluru. However, Sivarasan killed himself before he could be captured. Kempaiah is one of the few living people from Karnataka who has had a movie made about his life. Kempaiah IPS Kannada movie features Shashi Kumar as the hero.

Kempaiah has left his indelible mark of service in Mysuru District. He turned out to be a renaissance man of the Police Department, having restored almost all the dilapidated Police Stations without sacrificing the heritage character of the buildings. Until Kempaiah came to Mysuru, the Police Commissioner did not have an office of his own and was functioning from temporary premises on Lalitha Mahal Palace Road, in the office of the KSRP.

When Kempaiah was in charge of the STF, he made sandalwood smuggler and forest brigand Veerappan run for shelter in M M Hills; Kempaiah was about to catch Veerappan but by that time the State Government transferred Kempaiah. Immediately after, Veerappan resurfaced from his hideout and took Nagappa, Ex-Minister of Karnataka hostage. During his tenure as STF Chief, Kempaiah maintained a wonderful relationship with his Tamil Nadu counterparts like Walter Dewaram IPS and Vijayakumar IPS. In fact, in her interview with the BBC the then TN Chief Minister Jayalalitha praised Kempaiah for his good co-ordination and exchange of intelligence with TN STF.

He handled many sensational cases including bringing culprits like Shradhananda to book for murdering his wife Shakereh Khaleeli.

He was very close to Rajkumar, the Kannada matinée Idol. Dr Raj preferred Kempaiah for his police costumes in films.

Suraksha Academy

Since his retirement Kempaiah has been working on starting a training academy for security personnel. He is working full-time to establish his dream project called "Suraksha Foundation" in his farm just off Bengaluru on Kanakapura Road.

The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India, occurred as a result of a suicide bombing in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, in Tamil Nadu, India on 21 May 1991. At least 14 others, in addition to Rajiv Gandhi, were killed. It was carried out by Thenmozhi Rajaratnam, a member of the Sri Lankan Tamil separatist organization Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). At the time, India had just ended its involvement, through the Indian Peace Keeping Force, in the Sri Lankan Civil War. Subsequent accusations of conspiracy have been addressed by two commissions of inquiry and have brought down at least one national government.

K. Vijay Kumar

K Vijay Kumar, IPS, is a retired IPS officer. He was the chief of the Special Task Force of Tamil Nadu that was involved in the death of the Veerappan during Operation Cocoon of 2004. He had also been the senior advisor to Home Ministry for the Left Wing Extremism areas. He served as the Advisor to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir with Home, Forest, Ecology & Environment, Health & Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Hospitality & Protocol, Civil Aviation, Estates and Information portfolios. Currently he has joined back as senior security adviser in Ministry of Home Affairs in December 2019.

The Kannada flag, a strip of yellow and red, symbolises both Kannada and Karnataka, where yellow represents ‘Arisina’ (Haladi) and red represents ‘Kumkuma’. Kannadigas who have been worshipping Goddess Chamundeshwari, Yellamma and the state Goddess Bhuvaneshwari for thousands of years identify themselves with the ‘Arisina’ (yellow) and ‘Kumkuma’ (red) flag, which is a symbol of ‘Soubhagya’ signifying peace and courage respectively. The Karnataka flag does not represent a separatist ideology and is always hoisted at a lower height than that of the national flag. Operation Cocoon Tamil Nadu Police operation to capture Veerappan

Operation Cocoon was an operation launched by the Special Task Force of Tamil Nadu Police to capture the forest brigand Veerappan and his associates, who were dominant in Sathyamangalam Forest in the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. The operation was headed by K. Vijay Kumar, and N. K. Senthamarai Kannan.

<i>Killing Veerappan</i> 2016 Indian film

Killing Veerappan is a 2016 Indian Kannada-language docudrama film written by K. Balaji and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The film is based on the events leading to Operation Cocoon to capture or kill Indian bandit Veerappan. Featuring Shiva Rajkumar in the central role touted to be based on N. K. Senthamarai Kannan, the then Superintendent of police, with the Indian Special Task Force, and the spy who masterminded Operation Cocoon.

Padmanabha murder case was a sensational case during the earlier part of 1990 in Madras in Tamil Nadu, (India) and Sri Lanka. Padmanabha was the leader of EPRLF and he was murdered with 12 of his party men and two commoners in Madras, the capital of Tamil Nadu on 19 June 1990. The incident marked the first occasion when the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eezham (LTTE), a militant organization, targeted an attack outside Sri Lanka.

The film is a remake of the Kannada film Killing Veerappan (2016). The film stars Sandeep Bharadwaj, Sachiin J Joshi, Lisa Ray and Usha Jadhav.

<i>Curfew</i> (1994 film) 1994 Kannada crime film by Ha Su Rajasekhar

Curfew is a 1994 Indian Kannada crime film starring Devaraj, B. C. Patil, Doddanna, Dattatreya and Richard Louis in the lead roles with Sudharani in an extended cameo appearance. Directed by Ha Su Rajasekhar, the film produced under Sri Sai Jyothi Creations had background score by Sadhu Kokila. Rajasekhar also wrote the screenplay for the story by L. R. Ranganath Rao.

D.V. Guruprasad, born in Bangalore in 1951 took his Bachelor of Science Degree from National College, Bangalore and later did his Masters in English Literature from Karnatak University, Dharwad. He joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1976 and was allotted Karnataka cadre. He served as Superintendent of Police of Bidar, Gulbarga and Kodagu districts, DIG of Gulbarga Range, and Commissioner of Police, Hubli-Dharwad. He headed the State Intelligence Department and the State Information Department. He headed the recruitment wing in the State Police and was responsible for initiating a very transparent recruitment process which brought him much laurels. He also had his stint in CISF, New Delhi. He served for five years in the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and was instrumental in dividing the huge entity into four independent entities. He has had a small stint of police training in the U.K. He worked as Director General of Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department and retired as DGP Home Guards, Fire Force and Civil Defence in 2011. He has written many books on Indian police system and related topics,travelogues in English and Kannada languages. He is also columnist of Deccan Herald, English daily newspaper.
