Shashi Kumar (born 2 December 1965) is an actor and politician from Karnataka. He works predominantly in Kannada films. [1] He is originally from Andrapradesh; he acted with many leading ladies in 1990s and he acted as Rajnikanth's brother in Blockbuster movie Baashha (1995). He is credited with the title 'Supreme Hero' by the Kannada audience. [2]
Shashi Kumar's first released film was Chiranjeevi Sudhakara starring Raghavendra Rajkumar. [3] In 1989 he became popular with Yuddha Kaanda starring V. Ravichandran and Poonam Dhillon and C.B.I Shankar with Shankar Nag. In 1990 two successful films Rani Maharani and Baare Nanna Muddina Rani established him as a top hero of Kannada cinema. Shashi Kumar and Malashri, who acted together in several hit films together are considered one among the all-time popular pairs of Kannada cinema. [4] He was also paired with actresses Sudha Rani, Tara, Mahalakshmi, Soundarya, Sithara and Shruti.
He met with a car accident near the Bangalore Turf Club in 1998. [5] [6] The surgeries altered his looks and offers for lead roles from big banners stopped coming his way. [7] For a few years, he starred in supporting roles in multi-starrers like Yajamana , Habba, Kanasugara, Snehaloka and Yaarige Saluthe Sambala . [8] He later decided to take the plunge into politics. [9]
He was a member of the 13th Lok Sabha representing Chitradurga and contesting on a Janata Dal (United) ticket. He has successfully contested and won the Member of Parliament elections for Chitradurga constituency. [10] He joined the Indian National Congress in 2006. [11]

Singanalluru Puttaswamaiah Muthuraj, better known by his stage name Dr. Rajkumar, was an Indian actor and singer who worked in Kannada cinema. Regarded as one of the greatest and versatile actors in the history of Indian cinema, he is considered a cultural icon and holds a matinée idol status in the Kannada diaspora, among whom he is popularly called as Nata Saarvabhouma, Bangarada Manushya, Vara Nata, Gaana Gandharva, Rasikara Raja, Kannada Kanteerava and Rajanna/Annavru. He was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 1983 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1995. He is the only lead actor to win National Award for Playback singing. His 39 movies have been remade 63 times in 9 languages by 34 actors making him the first actor whose movies were remade more than fifty times and the first actor whose movies were remade in nine languages. He was the first actor in India to enact a role which was based on James Bond in a full-fledged manner. The success of his movie Jedara Bale is credited to have widely inspired a Desi bond genre in other Indian film industries. On the occasion of the "Centenary of Indian Cinema" in April 2013, Forbes included his performance in Bangaarada Manushya on its list of "25 Greatest Acting Performances of Indian Cinema". Upon his death, The New York Times had described him as one of India's most popular movie stars.
