Kenneth Kelash (born May 8,1952) is a Minnesota politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 63,which included portions of the city of Minneapolis in Hennepin County. A Democrat,he was first elected to the Senate in a special election held on November 4,2008. [1] The seat became vacant when Senator Dan Larson resigned in order to accept a position with his former employer,a law and lobbying firm in Minneapolis. [2] He was re-elected in 2010. [3]
Kelash was a member of the Senate's Agriculture and Rural Economies,Environment and Natural Resources,and Jobs and Economic Growth committees. [4] His special legislative concerns included jobs,education,and transportation. [1]
Kelash is a retired carpenter,union officer and regional business agent. He has been a member of the Carpenter's Local Union #1644 since 1976,and has been active in the Minnesota Building Trades Union,the Minneapolis Central Labor Union Council,and the Minnesota AFL-CIO. [5] He has served on the Minneapolis Workforce Investment Board (WIB) and the Hennepin County Workforce Investment Board,which direct federal and state money into jobs and training programs. He has also been a member of the Policy Board of the Minneapolis Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) for more than 10 years. [1] [5]
Kelash attended the carpentry program at Hennepin Technical Center,graduating in 1974. He received his B.A. from Metropolitan State University in 1984. In 2003,he earned his M.P.A. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University,made possible by a Bush Leadership Fellowship,which he was awarded in 2002. [1] [5]
Steve Murphy is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 28,which includes portions of Goodhue,Wabasha and Winona counties in the southeastern part of the state. A Democrat,he was first elected in 1992,representing the old District 29 until redistricting in 2002. He was re-elected in 1996,2000,2002 and 2006. Satveer Singh Chaudhary is an American criminal defense and immigration lawyer. During his fourteen-year tenure,Chaudhary represented portions of Anoka and Ramsey counties in the northern Minneapolis and St Paul metropolitan area. The Senate District at the time of his departure from politics was known as Senate District 50. However,Chaudhary also represented the area in the Minnesota House from 1997-2000 as District 52A;and in the Senate from 2001 to 2002 as Senate District 52. While in office,Chaudhary served as a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party,was the first Asian American legislator in Minnesota history. He was also the first South Asian senator in American history and for a time was the highest ranking political official of South Asian descent,as well as one of the youngest senators in that state's history.
Patricia Torres Ray is a Colombian-American politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL),she represented District 63,which includes portions of southeastern Minneapolis and eastern Richfield in Hennepin County in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. She is the first Latina woman to serve in the Minnesota Senate. She ran for Congress in Minnesota's 5th district in 2018 to succeed Congressman Keith Ellison,but lost the primary to Ilhan Omar. In November 2021,she announced that she would not run for reelection in 2022.

Linda Lee Berglin is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 61,which includes portions of the city of Minneapolis in Hennepin County,which is in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 1980,and was re-elected in each election until she resigned on August 15,2011,to take a position with Hennepin County. Prior to the 1982 and 1992 redistricting,the area was known as District 59 and District 60,respectively.
Linda Higgins is a Minnesota politician who represented the second district of Hennepin County as county commissioner from late 2012 to January 2019. Higgins is a former member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 58,which included portions of the city of Minneapolis in Hennepin County,which is in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 1996,and was re-elected in 2000,2002,2006 and 2010. She served as a majority whip from 2001 to 2006. In the fall of 2011,she announced that she would not seek reelection after the current term ended in 2012. However,when Hennepin County District 2 Commissioner Mark Stenglein announced in June 2012 that he would resign,Higgins decided to run for that position. On May 20,2012,she was endorsed by the DFL party for the position,and won the election in November. In 2014,she ran unopposed and was reelected. She served as the Vice-Chair of the County Board,and Chair of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority. She retired from the county board in January 2019.
Donald Betzold is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 51,which includes portions of Anoka,Hennepin and Ramsey counties in the northern Twin Cities metropolitan area. Prior to the 2002 redistricting,the area was known as District 48. A Democrat,he was first elected to the Senate in 1992,and was re-elected in 1996,2000,2002 and 2006. He was unseated by Republican Pam Wolf in the 2010 general election.
