Cornell Desmond Brown is a former American college and professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons. He played college football for Virginia Tech, and earned All-American honors twice. Drafted late in the sixth round of the 1997 NFL Draft, he played professionally for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. He is currently a defensive ends coach for Marshall. In 2013, Brown was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
Benjamin Frazier Taylor is a former professional American football player. Taylor was elected to the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. He now teaches physical education and coaches football at Shenandoah University in Virginia.

He was selected by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft and played professionally as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) with the Texans (2008–2010), Minnesota Vikings (2011), Chicago Bears (2012), and Tennessee Titans (2012). He was inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.

In a high-scoring affair, Nebraska defeated Virginia Tech, 41–21.

The game was the final contest of the 1997 NCAA Division I-A football season for both teams, and ended in a 42–3 victory for North Carolina.
