Kent Lex Baer (born May 2, 1951) is an American college football coach. He most recently was the defensive coordinator at the University of Montana, a position he held from 2018 to 2022. Baer served as the interim head football coach at the University of Notre Dame for one game in 2004 and at San Jose State University for one game in 2012.
Born in Logan, Utah, Baer graduated from Sky View High School of Smithfield, Utah in 1969. [1] Baer then enrolled at Utah State University. At Utah State, Baer lettered in football for four years (1969 through 1972) and graduated with a degree in physical education and recreation. [2]
On December 1, 2004, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Baer was named interim head coach after regular head coach Tyrone Willingham was fired. [3] [4] Notre Dame eventually hired Charlie Weis as new head coach starting 2005. [5] Baer was a 2002 finalist for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top college football assistant coach. However, the Fighting Irish gave up 26.4 points per game in Baer's final 26 games on the coaching staff, from the 12th game of the 2002 season through the end of the 2004 season.
On January 3, 2005, after Willingham became head coach at Washington, Baer joined Willingham's staff as defensive coordinator. [6] At the conclusion of the 2007 season, after a statistically worst defensive season in UW football history, Willingham decided to let Baer go. In the three years at UW, the defense ranked 94, 95 and 98 in total defense, 89, 85 and 94 in scoring defense, and 106, 102 and 85 in passing defense.(1)
On April 14, 2008, Baer became defensive coordinator at San Jose State under Dick Tomey. [7]
On December 11, 2012, Baer became interim head coach of San Jose State after Mike MacIntyre resigned to become head coach at Colorado. Baer coached the Spartans to a 29-20 victory over Bowling Green University in the 2012 Military Bowl on December 27. MacIntyre announced on December 18 that he would like Baer to join him in Colorado as defensive coordinator. [8] With five other former San Jose State assistants, Baer joined MacIntyre in Colorado on January 3, 2013. [9]
First year head coach Tony Sanchez completed his staff at UNLV when Baer joined on December 22, 2014 as his defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. [10] Following the 2017 football season, Baer was relieved of his duties as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at UNLV, allowing over 31 points per game and over 450 yards to opposing offenses. Lionel Tyrone Willingham is a former American football player and coach. He was the head coach at Stanford University (1995–2001), the University of Notre Dame (2002–2004), and the University of Washington (2005–2008), compiling a career college football record of 76–88–1.
Gary Brent Darnell is an American former college football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Tennessee Technological University from 1983 to 1985 and Western Michigan University from 1997 to 2004 and was interim head football coach at the University of Florida for seven games in 1989 and at Texas A&M University for one game in 2007, compiling a career head coaching record of 52–80. Darnell had stints at a defensive coordinator at Kansas State University, Wake Forest University, Florida, the University of Notre Dame, the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M.
Jon Tenuta is an American football coach who was most recently the defensive coordinator and secondaries coach for the New Orleans Breakers of the United States Football League (USFL). Previously, Tenuta was the defensive coordinator for the Virginia Cavaliers.
Nicholas Holt V is an American football coach who is currently the head coach of Skorpions Varese of the Federazione Italiana di American Football. Previously he was co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Purdue University for three seasons from 2017 to 2019. Before that he was the defensive coordinator at Western Kentucky from 2013 to 2016. Earlier in his career, Holt was defensive coordinator and assistant head coach of the Washington Huskies, defensive coordinator and defensive line coach of the USC Trojans, and head coach of the Idaho Vandals from 2004 to 2005.

The Rebels played a 13-game schedule due to their non-conference road game at Hawaii. The Rebels also had non-conference games against Wisconsin and at Idaho and West Virginia. George Michael MacIntyre is an American football coach who is currently the head coach at FIU. MacIntyre previously served as the head football coach at San Jose State from 2010 to 2012 and at Colorado from 2013 to 2018.
Chuck Heater is an American football coach and former player. He was a running back for the University of Michigan from 1972 to 1974 and finished his playing career as the fifth all-time leading rusher in Michigan Wolverines football history. Heater has been an assistant football coach at ten universities since 1976. He has been affiliated with College Football Hall of Fame coaches Bo Schembechler, Earle Bruce, and Lou Holtz. He has been on coaching staffs of national championship teams at Notre Dame (1988) and Florida.
The 2012 San Jose State Spartans football team represented San Jose State University in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Spartans were led by third year head coach Mike MacIntyre and played their home games at Spartan Stadium. They were members of the Western Athletic Conference. This was the Spartans' final season as members of the WAC. They joined the Mountain West Conference on July 1, 2013. They finished the season 11–2, 5–1 in WAC play to finish in second place. They were invited to the Military Bowl where they defeated Bowling Green.

The 2013 San Jose State Spartans football team represented San José State University in the 2013 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Spartans were led by first year head coach Ron Caragher and played their home games at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans were first-year members of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division. They finished the season 6–6, 5-3 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for third place in the West Division. Despite being bowl eligible, the Spartans were not invited to a bowl game.
Kurt Roper is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the quarterbacks backs coach at North Carolina State University. Roper was the interim head football coach at University of Colorado Boulder for the final game of the 2018 season. He previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of South Carolina for two seasons. He also served as the offensive coordinator at the University of Florida in 2014 and Duke University for six seasons prior to that. A native of Ames, Iowa, he was starting quarterback for Ardmore (OK) High School, where he led the Tigers to a 1990 state championship. Roper earned three varsity letters as a quarterback and defensive back at Rice before graduating in 1995. He earned a master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1998. His coaching career has been much associated with that of David Cutcliffe.
Michael Fredrick Denbrock is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He has previously coached for the Illinois State Redbirds, Grand Valley State Lakers, Stanford Cardinal, Washington Huskies, Indiana State Sycamores, Cincinnati Bearcats, and LSU Tigers. He also coached in the Arena Football League (AFL) with the Buffalo Destroyers.
Michael Gunar William Sanford is an American football coach and former quarterback. He is the former interim head coach for the Colorado Buffaloes. He played college football at Boise State from 2000 to 2004. He then served as the head coach of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (2017–2018).
