Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Warwickshire. Its T20 team is called the Birmingham Bears. Founded in 1882,the club held minor status until it was elevated to first-class in 1894 pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. Since then,Warwickshire have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Warwickshire's kit colours are black and gold and the shirt sponsor is Gullivers Sports Travel. The club's home is Edgbaston Cricket Ground in south Birmingham,which regularly hosts Test and One-Day International matches.
The 2005 English cricket season was the 106th in which the County Championship had been an official competition. Before it began,a resurgent England cricket team had won four Test series in a row,going unbeaten through the 2004 calendar year. The start of the international season saw England defeat Bangladesh 2–0 in their two-match series,winning both Tests by an innings. This was followed by a tri-nations one-day tournament that also featured Australia. Australia still started the Test series as favourites but most fans expected England to put up a challenge.
Jonathan Lewis is a former England cricketer and current Head Coach of England Women's Cricket and UP Warriorz in Women's Premier League. He was brought up in Swindon where he was educated at Churchfields School and Swindon College. He played for Swindon CC and,in Minor Counties cricket,for Wiltshire County Cricket Club in 1993. He joined Northamptonshire in 1994 and played for its Second XI but returned to Wiltshire in 1995. In the same year,he joined Gloucestershire and made his first-class debut. He has played for the English cricket team in Twenty20,One Day International and Test matches. He was appointed Gloucestershire captain in 2006.
Edmund "Ed" Christopher Joyce is an Irish cricket coach and former cricketer who played for both the Ireland and England national cricket teams. After beginning his career with Middlesex,he moved to Sussex in 2009,before returning to Ireland to play for Leinster Lightning in the fledgling first-class competition,the Irish Inter-Provincial Championship. A left-handed batsman and occasional right-arm bowler of medium pace,Joyce is widely regarded as one of the best cricketers produced by Ireland.

Mushtaq Mohammad PP is a Pakistani cricket coach and former cricketer who played in 57 Tests and 10 ODIs from 1959 to 1979. A right-handed batsman and a leg-spinner,he is one of the most successful Pakistani all-rounders and went on to captain his country in nineteen Test matches. He was the first and to date only Pakistani to score a century and take five wickets in an innings in the same test match twice.
Mudhsuden Singh "Monty" Panesar is a former English international cricketer. A left-arm spinner,Panesar made his Test cricket debut in 2006 against India in Nagpur and One Day International debut for England in 2007. In English county cricket,he last played for Northamptonshire in 2016,and has previously played for Northamptonshire until 2009,Sussex from 2010 to 2013 and Essex from 2013 to 2015. He has also played for the Lions in South Africa.
David John Capel was an English cricketer who played for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club and the English cricket team. Cricket writer Colin Bateman noted that "Capel was one of those unfortunate cricketers who became tagged as being the next all-rounder to fill Ian Botham's boots". He was well known for his long stint with Northamptonshire as a player as well as coach for nearly 32 years. He was regarded as one of the icons of the Northamptonshire club. He died on 2 September 2020,at the age of 57,after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2018.
Michael Howard Yardy is an English cricket coach and former professional cricketer who played limited over internationals for the England cricket team between 2006 and 2015. He played as a left-handed batsman and captained Sussex County Cricket Club. His unusual batting technique attracted a great deal of attention due to a pronounced shuffle from leg to off immediately prior to the bowler releasing the ball. Yardy also bowled slow left arm with a characteristic round armed action,and was used as a bowling all-rounder in England's One Day International and Twenty20 International teams. Yardy retired from professional cricket at the end of the 2015 season. Yardy was a member of the England team that won the 2010 ICC World Twenty20.
Timothy Raymond Ambrose is a retired Australian-born English cricketer who played all three formats of the game internationally. He was a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper. He began his domestic career with Sussex County Cricket Club in 2000,although he went on to play for Warwickshire. He represented England but lost his place to Matt Prior in 2009. Ambrose retired from cricket at the end of the 2020 season.
Darren Ian Stevens is an English cricketer. An all-rounder,he bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium-pace. In first-class cricket,he has scored over 16,000 runs and since the age of 35 has taken over 500 wickets and more than 30 five-wicket hauls. Stevens was named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in the 2021 edition of the almanack.
Thomas Edwin Reed Cook was an English sportsman. He played professional football,playing as a centre-forward and additionally had a substantial career in First-Class cricket primarily as a batsman.
Peter Moores is an English former first class cricketer who was the head coach of the men's England cricket team.
Henry Yarnold,known as Hugo Yarnold,was an English first-class cricketer who became a Test match umpire. He was born at Worcester in 1917.
Laurie John Evans is an English cricketer,contracted to Surrey County Cricket Club. A right-handed top-order batsman,he has previously represented Warwickshire,Northamptonshire and Sussex in county cricket,and since 2019 has been selected for global Twenty20 leagues,representing Rajshahi Kings,Multan Sultans,St Kitts &Nevis Patriots,Colombo Kings and the Perth Scorchers.
Garnet Morley Lee was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Nottinghamshire between 1910 and 1922 and for Derbyshire between 1925 and 1933. He scored nearly 15,000 runs in his first-class career.
John Stephen Manning,usually known as Jack Manning,was an Australian cricketer who played first-class cricket for South Australia and in England for Northamptonshire. He was born at Semaphore,South Australia and died at Adelaide,also in South Australia.
Robert Strickland Gilbert Scott played first-class cricket for Oxford University and Sussex between 1930 and 1934. A right-handed middle-order batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler,he was Sussex captain in a few matches in 1932 and regularly in 1933,at first unofficially because of the ill-health of K. S. Duleepsinhji,and then as the official captain later in the 1933 season.
The 2020 Bob Willis Trophy was a first-class cricket tournament held in the 2020 English cricket season,and the inaugural edition of the Bob Willis Trophy. It was separate from the County Championship,which was not held in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. The eighteen county cricket teams were split into three regional groups of six,with the two group winners with the most points advancing to a final held at Lord's. The maximum number of overs bowled in a day was reduced from 96 to 90,and the team's first innings could be no longer than 120 overs.
