Khaldunia High School (KHS) [1] is a private fee-paying academic institution located in Islamabad, Pakistan. Khaldunia provides preschool education, primary education, secondary education and preparation for the General Certificate of Education(GCE) O Level examinations. It is known to be one of the best schools in Islamabad, especially from early 2000's till mid 2010's due to their focus on quality of education and choosing impressive teachers which formed a high caliber team.
Khaldunia High School was founded by Hajra Ahmed and Farukh Pracha. Classes commenced in January 1997 beginning with Grades 6 through 9. In September, GCE Ordinary level was launched. In September 1999, primary and elementary classes were introduced followed by preschool classes termed Reception in 2002. [2] The Advisory Committee included Pervez Hoodbhoy, M. A K. Chaudhry, Ibn Abdur Rehman and Vaqar Zaqaria. [3] The word Khaldunia is inspired from Ibn Khaldun, the naming being a brainchild of Eqbal Ahmad. [4] [5] In February 2012, the plan to construct a purpose built campus was approved by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). [6] The land was brought by the school from the CDA on a relatively low cost. [7]
The lone campus is located in Plot # 2, St 94, G-11/3 in Islamabad, Pakistan. [8] The school hosts convocations, [9] [10] Annual Sports Days, [11] Arts and Crafts Fairs, and Field Trips. [12] Two science laboratories, a computer laboratory and a library are present in the campus. Students can become members of a number of clubs and societies, as well as an elected student council. Twice weekly assemblies are conducted by different classes regularly in the morning before classes begin. Guest lecturers are invited to speak to students, among with include notable speakers such as Eqbal Ahmad, Pervez Hoodbhoy, Zia Mian, Abdul Hameed Nayyar, Tariq Rahman, and Zafar Abbas. [13]
Khaldunia High School is classified as a high-cost private school. In December 2018, the Supreme Court of Pakistan passed an order that forced such schools to reduce any fees in excess of than Rs. 5,000 by 20 per cent. The order was passed on the insistence of protesting parents who stated that private schools were charging 'extortionary' fees, and subjecting them to arbitrary increases. [14] [15] Khaldunia has also been criticised for the decline of their educational standards since their inception. Critics have noted flaws such as visible favouritism among teachers and deteriorating facilities.
Eqbal Ahmad was a Pakistani political scientist, writer and academic known for his anti-war activism, his support for resistance movements globally and academic contributions to the study of the Near East. Born in Bihar, British India, Ahmad migrated to Pakistan as a child and went on to study economics at the Forman Christian College. After graduating, he worked briefly as an army officer and was wounded in the First Kashmir War in 1948. He participated in the Algerian Revolution, then studied the Vietnam War and U.S. imperialism, becoming an early opponent of the war upon his return to the U.S. in the mid-1960s.

Hoodbhoy is also a prominent activist in particular concerned with promotion of freedom of speech, secularism, scientific temper and education in Pakistan.

Abdul Hameed Nayyar, also known as A.H. Nayyar, is a Pakistani physicist, author, and a freelance consultant on the issues of education, nuclear safety, and energy. His field of specialization is in the physics of condensed matter, and served in the faculties of the Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad from 1973 till 2005 and the Lahore University of Management Sciences. Nayyar is known for voicing for education reforms and military arms control, which he directed research programs at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute in Islamabad.

On 20 October 2009, at least six people, including three women, were killed, and as many as 29 people injured, 25 of them women, in twin suicide attacks at International Islamic University in the Pakistani capital Islamabad. Police said that the blasts at the university were caused by suicide bombers. This was the first-ever attack on students in the country since the start of 21st century terrorism in Pakistan in 2001.
