Khandker Golam Faruq is a retired Bangladeshi police officer and an additional inspector general of police of the Bangladesh Police. He served as the 35th commissioner of DMP. Prior to join here,he was the 13th rector of Police Staff College Bangladesh. [1] Before that he served as principal of Bangladesh Police Academy,Sardah,Rajshahi. [2] He is a former deputy inspector general of Chittagong Range of Bangladesh Police. [3]
Faruq hailed from Ghatandi village in Bhuapur Upazila,Tangail District. [4] He completed his graduation from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. He holds a master's degree in political science from a private university.
Faruq joined the Bangladesh Police on 20 January 1991 with 12th Bangladesh Civil Service batch. [5] He served in the 4th Armed Police Battalion based in Bogra District. [5] He then went on to serve in Chittagong Metropolitan Police and Khagrachari District police. [5]
Faruq was the superintendent of police of Thakurgaon District in 2005. [6]
In 2006,Faruq was awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal. [5] He served as the assistant superintendent of police of Dhaka District. [5]
In 2015,Faruq was awarded the President Police Medal. [5] He was the additional deputy inspector general of police of Dhaka Range when the Ashulia bank robbery was carried out in 2015 by Ansarullah Bangla Team. [7] In 2016,Faruq was promoted to deputy inspector general of police from additional inspector general of police while serving as the joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. [8]
Al Jazeera showed a video of arsonists burning down homes of Santals,a tribal minority,in Gaibandha District in the presence of police officers of Rangpur Range in 2016;Faruq denied police were involved. [9] In 2017,while Faruq was the deputy inspector general of police of Rangpur Range,member of parliament Manzurul Islam Liton was murdered in Gaibandha which falls under Rangpur Range. [10] In 2017,he arrested a Hindu man whose Facebook post,which allegedly "defamed prophet Mohammad",led to Hindu properties being attacked by Muslims. [11]
Faruq was awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal again in 2018. [5] In 2019,Awami League supporters gangraped a woman,who supported the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party,during election night. [12] Faruq visited the victim who living in Noakhali District under Chittagong Range commanded by Faruq. [12] [13]
Faruq also served as the SP in Mymensingh, Jamalpur,Kishoreganj, Jhalakathi and Thakurgaon. [14] [4]
Faruq,deputy inspector general of Chittagong Range,was moved Cox's Bazar to oversee the police following the murder of Major Sinha Mohammed Rashed Khan. [15] In September 2020,he was transferred to Bangladesh Police Academy as its principal. [15] He was promoted to additional inspector general of police in November 2020. [14] He requested Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam to seek opinion from police officers before appointing public prosecutors in lower courts. [16]
On 23 October 2022,the government appointed him as the next commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police after Md. Shafiqul Islam retires. [4] He attended the International Association of Police Academies conference in 2022 held in Bangladesh Police Staff College. [17] Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke at the event and was received by Faruq in September. [18] After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government,a travel ban was imposed on him and his wife. [19]

It plays a crucial role in maintaining peace,and enforcement of law and order within Bangladesh. Hassan Mahmood Khandker is a former Bangladeshi police officer who served as the 26th Inspector General of Bangladesh Police from 31 August 2010 to 30 December 2014. He was the longest serving Inspector General in Bangladesh Police's history. It was during his tenure that Bangladesh Police got Independence Day Award. Moreover,rank badge of the IGP upgraded to 3-star general in his time,earlier IGP was bearing two-star general rank badge since 1983.

Habibur Rahman is a former Bangladeshi police officer. He served as 35th commissioner of DMP. Prior to join here he was head of the Tourist Police. From 2019 to 2022,he was deputy inspector general (DIG) of Dhaka Range,and DIG of administration and discipline at the police headquarters in Dhaka. He was sent into retirement from government service in public interest according to the provisions of section no. 45 of the Public Service Act,2018.
Ashulia bank robbery was a robbery of the Ashulia branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited by members of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh and Ansarullah Bangla Team,both of which are Jihadist terror organizations,to raise funds for terror attacks in 2015. The terrorists killed 7 civilians in the bank during the robbery and one terrorist was killed while fleeing the scene. In 2016,six of the robbers were sentenced to death for their part in the robbery.

Shafiqul Islam is a retired police officer who served as the 34th police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was made the DMP commissioner on 14 September 2019. He previously served as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department.
